THE FAOLS
An old noble family, their holdings the rich pasture centred around Dingadarn Keep, who claim distant relationship to Corwyn, Dunland's first High King. The family estates have been managed by widow Gwenn Faol since her husband's death in 3004; the Maobhann family lands also came into her possession when her own parents passed away (her brother having entered the priesthood as a youth). For four decades Gwenn has been head of the family in truth, if not in word, quietly overseeing their affairs whilst the menfolk spent their time serving in the militia, breeding horses or raiding down in the Gap. Now, however, the old woman has fallen prey to a wasting sickness that seems like to claim her life before long.
The onus is on Gwenn's grandchildren - the young Fian Bledrann and his sister Eilidh - to carry on the family line. But Bledrann, young and rash, has no leadership experience to draw on, and his sister Eilidh, reluctant chatelaine these past few months, will surely soon wed and move elsewhere. Is four decades of stability about to come to an end?
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Bledrann
You look upon a young man, perhaps slightly taller than average, with the slightly bowed legs of the habitual rider. His features are finely chiselled, almost haughty: thin mouth, slightly aquiline nose, long-lashed hazel eyes. A mass of dark hair tumbles unbound to his shoulders. He wears a fine linen shirt and breeches of dark green cloth, tucked into black boots that reach to just below knee level. These are of soft, well-polished leather and even the mud splattered over them cannot hide their quality. The man's cloak is of grey wool, with borders of complex interlacing designs embroidered in a dark green thread. The cloak is pinned at the left shoulder, by a prominent silver brooch, shaped in the form of a wolf's head.
Eilidh
You look upon a young woman of average height but notable poise and bearing, her head held proudly high. Her hair, long and dark, reaches unbound down her back to just above waist level and is held back from her face by two silver combs. If one looked closely, one might recognize that these are engraved with stylized wolf-shapes. The woman's features are finely chiselled and almost haughty, and her heart-shaped face is dominated by a pair of long-lashed green eyes.
She is clad in a finely woven dress of green wool, its skirts divided to allow ease of movement. Embroidery at the hem and neckline traces out interlacing designs. Outdoors, a cloak of grey wool is worn, pinned at the left shoulder by a silver brooch in the form of a wolf's head.
