Ceredir comes in from the ruins to the north.

Light, darkness they fuse and merge in this hour of twilight.

Outside the fortifications of the Gondorian garrison, four long rows of Hostmen stand. There, men of the former Bright Sun Company and the men brought from Rhunmegil's Deep likewise fuse and merge under a single standard... the Seven Stones Company this is.

A horn calls. Their Captain comes to meet them.

From the north, followed by those with whom he talked there, Gurtir comes, fully clad in the attire of his new function, clinking under his armor even though his steps still bear the quiet nature his rangerhood taught him.

[Ceredir(#1394)] Ceredir is not on duty this hour and seems to have managed to avoid notice of the Quartermaster, who would surely give his Deputy more tasks, off duty or not. He follows behind Gurtir, then moves to stand to one side, carefully out of the way. He leans against a piece of rubble and watches.

[Midhwen(#29054)] Before they reach the gathered group of men, Midhwen looks towards the tents where the healers are stationed. "I'm afraid I must leave, I have duties of my ownto attend to. Again, congratulations on your new position."

Gurtir bows his head at the apprentice healer, expressing his thanks and smiling briefly.

Then he comes, his back straight, his eyes bright, halting with precision by the side of the standard bearer, facing the men of the Seven Stones Company the officers at the front lead the way offering their salutes.

         "Countrymen!", the Captain calls, "Soldiers!"

"The Bright Sun is no more the Nardukan Company of Rhunmegil's Deep is no more. Yet from their fusion something greater is born. We here stand as a new Company, the Seven Stones Company.”

“I salute you!"

[Thaladel(#7905)] The men of the former companies all begin to salute their new Captain at once, Thaladel among them, looking toward Gurtir with utmost respect. It is a solemn but hopeful occasion, this new union. Thal looks to his left, and realizes he is standing beside one of the former members of the Nardukan company, almost certainly a former thief. Still, the thief performs a perfect salute to the Captain as well.

Indeed the men of the Nardukan are grim to look upon, mirthless faces, merciless eyes, bodies fit from toiling where they came from. Yet they present themselves properly garbed, respectfully silent- in this uniform and in this life lies their chance of becoming men of consequence.

Thus their Captain addresses the Seven Stone Company:

"Those of you who hail from Rhunmegil's Deep, I acknowledge as equals, for hard have you worked and highly have you dreamed, just as I have. The Valar spared you throughout the challenges of hostile environment for great deeds they have placed trials in front of you, and many perished. I stand before the fittest and the ablest, the ones who survived. You of the Bright Sun, you are survivors as well. You have been tempered in the fire of battle, which likewise chose me the best men."

"I am proud to stand before you today.”

“I am proud to unite such different brave men under a single standard, and I am certain you will make me even prouder through your accomplishments. May this be the motto of our Company: survival through every hardship unwavering courage victory! May our seven cohorts be the stones in the path of the Enemy, forever thwarthing its advance, forever blocking its march, forever smashing it with irresistible strength!"

Gurtir speaks his piece, his Dunadan quality flaring each word and beholds the men.

[Thaladel(#7905)] Solemn and silent, Thaladel listens to the Captain. Once or twice, his eyes roam over the faces in the crowd, surprised to count so very few of his own company that have survived. He has been lucky, to be young and yet have made it this far. There are a few shouts of "victory!" echoed by some of the men toward the back of the assembly, but Thal only repeats the word quietly.

The Dunadan Captain gazes at his troops for a moment longer.

Above him, the Company standard flutters, its black fabric nigh lost in the nightly sky only the seven steps gray mountain and the likewise gray lines of the hollow sun above it show themselves.

"Once I was asked of my deeds in battle.", Gurtir speaks anew, "And the only honest answer I could give was that I could never remember if it had been I or the man by my side who slayed the foulest of orcs, such was the importance of they who fought by my side."

The Captain pauses, regarding the men, "You are now dismissed, and the evening is yours to get to know your comrades in a light mood I expect utmost discipline, however! And by the morrow, our trainment together begins."

THROOOM BOOOM DEEEM! rings the horn afterwards, indeed dismissing the Seven Stones Company.
