Thane Braldor's Chambers(#18185RtU)
A smaller room than the Underhalls of the Bundazanul, but still impressive. This room seems to have once been a natural cavern that the Khazad have hollowed to a larger size. The floor looks to be a polished granite that has a rather startling reflection. The slightly rougher walls are covered with beautiful tapestries. They rise then curve inwards and reach the natural ceiling, 15 feet up. The light in the room barely reaches the ceiling, which glitters when light reaches up to it's heights. On the ceiling along each wall hangs a large stalagtite, 10 feet long. Occasionally a drop of water drips off of one of them and lands in a gold basin that's sitting on a decorated wood table. Along one of the walls also is a stone fireplace large enough to put a rather good sized kettle in. Most of the light in this room comes from it. A stone couch sits in front of the fireplace, with a wooden table in front of it. There are wooden chairs around the room, and all look rather old. A large desk stands next to a wall. Above the door hangs two banners. One of Erebor, and one of Clan Bundazanul.

It's midafternoon, a time when most of the dwarves are busy at their work, whatever it is, and individual dwarves in the crowd are probably overlooked. A knock comes at the door to the Thane's office in the middle of all of this.

[Braldor(#30149)] Indeed, the Thane is working, a stack of parchments on top of his desk, some others rolled neatly beside him. As the knock comes, his head comes up, and he stares at the door. "Come in!", he calls, his voice as usual gruff and commanding.

The door opens briskly to admit Balur son of Balor of Bundazanul And Others. "Good afternoon, m'Lord Braldor," he says politely while pressing the door shut behind him. He then bows deeply to the Thane before approaching the desk. "Do you have a moment?"

[Braldor(#30149)] "Ah, Master Balur", Braldor says, getting up and signaling the elderly dwarf to one of the couches, "Certainly, certainly, I do have time for ye! Care for any refreshment, perhaps?", he adds, as he takes a seat on the couch himself.

"No, not just now, though I thank you," Balur says while moving himself to the couch and sitting on it. He looks briefly at the fire before looking over to Braldor. He suddenly is starting to look his age, the white streaks in his hair growing.

"You know of my brother-in-law, Ranor? Your Huskarl's father?" he asks, as if abruptly coming to the point.

"Aye, I know him, and I know of him, master Balur", the Thane replies, and from his voice, he clearly doesn't know why the sudden interest in Ranor.

Balur rests an arm on the back of his couch. "And surely you know of Ranor's character, if Ranol is in your employ." He shakes his head, frowning.

"His children want to avoid the shame of having their father in prison, but he hasn't changed his ways. It came to me that I have a responsibility toward them-- I am their uncle, and if they are not being treated well I ought to be looking to their welfare." Balur's words become more abrupt, as if a bit tired. "If it were me, Ranor would be in prison, but I told the children that I would have a word with him, see if I could talk sense into the dwarf. Of course it didn't work."

Balur shakes his head again. "So I've come to you to say that I've broken the law. Ranor started using filthy speech about my daughter. I hit him once and Nalur hit him thrice and I need to pay the fine for it. I would like to avoid embarrassing the firm if at all possible, but if you feel I need to spend my days in jail then I will."

[Braldor(#30149)] "I see', Braldor says, after a moment of thought. "Yet, no one has come with these news to me... I had no idea of this before ye told me", he muses, his brow furrowed in thought. "Yet, ye know the law, and it's been set by the Heir of Durin for all to obey. Yet...", he adds, and grows silent for a moment. "Perhaps I can talk to Ranor, and see what he has to say on this matter. Surely, if he has been saying things about Thari, he knew that some retribution will be in order, sooner or later", he adds. "Time are difficult, master Balur, specially with the Zinbar, and it'll do no good for the clan to get this kind of thing aired to everyone".

Balur nods once or twice as Braldor speaks, his bushy and hoary brows sticking out as he lowers them. "It's not so much the talk about Thari that I'm worried about, for Ranor has been spreading lies about my family for decades and no one  listens to him. It's his gambling and drinking and the harm he does to his own family. His children live with me now and I wish their mother would come as well. I intend to provide for them." A pause. "I know that you will, Braldor, but I'd ask for you to be discreet. Ranol and Panor are terribly dismayed at the thought of embarrassment in all this, and really, if it came public it would hurt them the most, and Panor not even grown, poor lass."

[Braldor(#30149)] "I understand", Braldor replies, nodding once, his black beard coming uyp and down with a slight swish. "I wouldn't want any embarrassment coming to them from the faults of their father, and I'll do much to prevent this. I made Ranol my Huskarl because the lads shows promise, and I want to make sure that he succeeds... and something like this seeping through will certainly jeopardize that", he adds. He takes a moment to think again, his dark eyes now on the lit fire in the hearth. "Well then, Master Belur... what is yer proposal then? How should we deal with Ranor?"

"I tried to put a bit of fear into him, myself." Balur readies himself and then stands, strong and hale yet. "I would suggest that we spend a bit of time waiting to see if it works. I'm having my traders in the taverns keep an eye out for his gambling, so I'll know if it should he starts anew. I'll try to deal with this as much as possible myself without troubling you-- I know you've already got your hands full with the Zinbar on top of all of your other concerns."

Balur bows toward the Thane. "Does that satisfy you?"

[Braldor(#30149)] Braldor nods emphatically. "I agree", he says. "Sounds like a good plan, for the time being. We'll see how it works".
