Description: The sun hangs high in the sky, for it is the noontime hour. The clouds are few, revealing the deep blue sky in all its beauty. The mellyrn glimmer in the orange light of the sun, and a soft wind rustles through the leaves.
Even as the breeze dies down, a voice rings out through the Gates. The Knight Thorhur looks out upon the Guard of the Gates, finishing a long speech. When his words are ended and the guards depart, he jumps down to the ground below and its in front of the great gate with a smile upon his face.
Pleasant sounds of a musicians flute come to an immediate halt. "Oh.." remarks a soft voice as the ellon drops directly before her. "A step forward would have certinally been an undesirable position for myself.." she adds, the young elleth's head tilting thoughtfully with a step backward. Clutching her crude flute close to her chest in both hands, the ever shy silvan Pellwen quietly looks upon the ellon. Her bright green eyes lit in bright contrast to her simple brown garments.
Thorhur looks up as well, and his eyes gleam with laughter. "Pelliwen! So long has it been since we last met! How have you been fair elleth of Dinlom?" he stands even as he speaks and looks down upon the musician. "That flute is a fine instrument. Use it well, for it is of great worth." Indeed, he deems the instrument to be of value.
Pelliwen blinks, the shy ellith offering the slightest of smiles as her bright greens fall downwards and remain. "Well enough.." she replys weakly, her eyes darting up to meet Thorhur's for the briefest of moments before quickly returning to the ground. Hands clinching her flute, she pulls it ever close.. "Ok it plays... ". The ever shy silvan lives up to her reputation with her next comment that is almost always a lie. "I... I better go... Busy of course"
"Stay for but a few moments!" Thorhur pleads, stepping in front of Pelliwen. "I would love to hear you play upon that flute, Pelliwen. Long have I strummed the harp, and it has been long since I heard the sound of the flute. Would you not play but one tune for me?" he smiles gently and brushes a lock of hair from his face.
A nervious smile is flashed to the ground as the ellon blocks her escape. Flute still head close, the ellith's dart up to Thorhur for another brief moment before returning downward. "If it pleases you..." the silvan comments at a near whisper as her hands assume the playing positon on her insturment. There is a moments pause as the ellith's figers lift the flute to her lips. Upon doing so the unique tones of her obviously self constructed instrument fill the air. A tune eventually spews forth. Eyes still focused downward, the shy and plainly dressed elleth plays a energetic bright happy tune that seems stark contrast to her interverted apperence. Not masterly yet, obvious skill is in her hands movement. Her breathing, tone and timing all perfect. It sounds like a marching tune.
Thorhur listens with his eyes closed. There are words to the song, and he sings them at just above a whisper. He also taps his foot to keep time, but so appealing is the tune that he is soon on his feet and dancing with the simple steps he learned as a Student. As the song progresses his dance becomes intense, and his voice louder as he sings the words, all the while with his eyes closed.
Fingers darting expertly about her flute, the overpowering shyness that seems shackle the elleth slip away instantly. Greens raising from the ground, a bright expression takes over the silvan's face. One step is firmly planted toward Thorhur just as an impressive sequence of fills and embellishments spill into the air. Head bobbing, Pelliwen's auburn hair falls loose with seemingly no bother caused. Another technical fill is added than another.
Thorhur stops his singing to the listen to the beauty of the flute. After the second fill, he smiles. "Your playing has much improved since last I heard you play," he whispers. Then, he sits back down to listen to the rest of the song, although he keeps his foot tapping, for this song is very powerful and captivating.
It becomes clear as Pelliwen slides deeper into the music that the young elleth is a technician. Fills and Embellishments are masterly dispite the otherwise simple tune. Leaning forward the silvan tilts the flute at an optimal angle. Hair hanging loose and cloak open at her shoulders, the quite visable hands of the elven seem to speed up to another level. At this moment an amazing grouping of fills are let loose, as fast as ever seen played. Almost to the point of being unmusical but still quite impressive.
Thorhur grins, and he knows the song nears its end. Looking up at the Gates, he sees some of the guards looking down upon Pelliwen with looks of wonder, for few of them have ever mastered the flute, let alone played it with such grace and expertise. The Knight is impressed by the elleth's playing, but he makes no sign of it, for he is too deep in the song. Such is the power of music.
Flicking her hair back, Pelliwen leans back and doubles her speed once again. Fingers darting to a blurr she plays a final embellishement which is her best yet. Playing ceasing with tasteful abruptness the elleth lowers the flute to her side. Running her hand through her loose fallen hair she offers a warm smile to the seated ellon.. "With great length that was composed.." she remarks at a whisper, while still breathing heavy. "You like.."
Thorhur chuckles and stands once more. He offers Pelliwen a loud chorus of applause, as do the few guards stationed on the Gates. Their laughter and cheers reach the two below, and Thorhur smiles. "That was a great song, Pelliwen. It brings me joy to see there are some still left who wish to write masterpieces of their own, rather than play those written in the ages long ago."
"Admittedly much of this has appeared in some form in many other songs. Apparent it has become that all has been played. Merely the order can be changed.." she remarks with a smile, her earlier shyness seemingly gone. Looking rather deshevelled, her hair a mess and cloak hanging wide, she continues to run her hand through her hair as she converses. "Once enough time is spent in song the similarities press to the surface.."
Thorhur grins. "There are only so many melodies and so many ways of ordering them. Eventually they will have to be repeated. If you spend a lot of time and put hard work into your opus though, then it does not matter. I enjoyed that Pelliwen, and I will praise your accomplishment to the Master Aluirwen, if I see her." he winks. "Such a work is worthy of praise." The guards upon the wall nod and yell "Indeed!" to voice their agreement.
Eyes darting upward to the guards the young silvan offers then a nod before quickly looking back to Thorhur. The plainly dressed elleth shifts her shoulders and slides her cloak into proper positon. "Well, glad I am that you think so.. Very rare it is that an audience hears my melodies, it is good to know that with approval they are met" she remarks still at a whisper. "Master Aluirwen I doubt will show much interest in the playing of mine. So beyond me she is after all.."
"Nay. Even I hearken to the song of the youngest elven child. Song is a sacred gift amongst our folk, for so we are gifted in voice. Do not ever take song for granted, for it is in song that the land of Lorien will remain when all has faded. It is in song that the memory of the Lord and Lady will live after they have passed into the West. It is song that the glory of these days will remain when those days are passed." Thorhur's voice is a whisper, and his eyes glisten.
Pelliwen blinks again, obviously thinking on Thorhur's words. "Quite obvious you have thought more on the subject then myself. No doubt you are right however." she remarks as a slight smile is offered. "You say the harp you play. How well do you play?"
Thorhur smiles. "I will not boast of my skill on the harp, but let us just say I play well enough so that weary ears may hearken to the sound. I have practiced for long years though, Pelliwen, and have spent hours alone in the Glirdain Talan studying advanced pieces for the harp. However, I'd like to turn to a different branch of the Glirdain to study, perhaps languages or lore, for one can only study the harp for so long." he winks at the young silvan and grins widely.
Grinning, the young silvan nods. "I suppose long years will dull edge of all passion.." she says softly, with another flick of her hair. "Least fond memories remain... They do remain don't they not.."
Thorhur nods, his smile fading for a brief moment. "Unfortunately the least fond memories stay just as the good ones do." Standing, the Knight bows. "Forgive me Pelliwen, but I have tarried here just a bit too long. I must now take up watch upon the Guard Talan, even though naught is upon the borders." with a wave, Thorhur jogs off at a steady pace.
