Chamber of Mazarbul(#9957RntU)
An immense chamber, whose expanses cannot all be seen from one single point.
Lined with doors to anterooms and quiet private chambers, the walls have
little room for adornment, but now and again a tapestry will be hung, or a
mural carved into the stone. Filling the chamber are rows upon rows of deep
stone shelves, filled with the parchments, scrolls, tablets and books of
the Khazad of Erebor. If the dwarves have it written down, it can likely be
found here, with the help of the Mazarbul clan, who keep and tend all the
writings.

South leads to Greathall of Thrain the Old.
Somewhat near the door, Runi sits in a chair against a wall. On the table
in front of him is the remains of a broken book. Multiple stacks of pages
lie about the table which Runi seems to be organizing. He seems very calm
although by no means happy.
Toran knocks ever so slightly on the door and slowly pushes it open. He
peaks his head inside and sees Runi sitting at the table stacking papers.
Toran walks in and looks around and sees the mess still not completely
cleaned up for the other night. Toran's face turns bright red with
embarrassment as he lowers his head as it moves back and forth slightly.
Toran slowly makes his way to in front of Runi. Toran ahems as he is
obviously nervous as he speaks, "Umm..Excuse me Master Runi, I was
wondering if I may have a quick word with you. It's rather important to me."
Runi glances up from his work at the sound of the knocking on the door.
When he sees that it is Toran, he looks back at the table and continues
shuffling the papers around. When he hears Toran speak, he looks up at him
frowning, places the sheet of paper in his hands onto the table, leans back
in his chair, and says, "Yes? What do you want?"
Toran shuffles his feet a bit as he says, "Well Master Runi, I wish to
apologize for my actions the other night in our beloved Chamber. I was
informed yesterday by Master Kurgan of my action and I read the report that
he filed with Lord Loigin. I will make no excuses for my action that night.
I have dishonored my family and myself. I pray to Mahal that you can find
it in your warrior heart to forgive the impudence and the damage I caused
that night. I wish to know if there is anything that I can do to help in
the repairs of the books or the room. I'm no Master Scribe, but I can help
the re-writing of the great books."
Vranitzky arrives from the Greathall of Thrain the Old.Vranitzky has arrived.
Vranitzky walks into the Chamber of Mazarbul to chek upon some information
on smithing, when he sees both Toran and Runi in the room. "Good morning
friends," he says, "I have been quite busy in the forges in the past few
days so I don't know how your little.. ahem.. meeting of the other day
ended." He turns to Toran and asks him "Sir, I hope you didn't get in any
trouble ?" Here Vranitzky smiles, "I shouldn't say this, but being quite
young as I am, it's refreshing to see that it's not only us that misbehave
occasionally" He then faces Runi and bows to him. "I see the room is not in
too much disarray now. Surely not too many books were damaged ?" He then
notices the pile of broken books on the table and frowns: "I see you have
quite a few ruined books. It's such a pity! I shall be more than willing to
help in the reconstruction, if there is anything I can do. Maybe provide
for some metal covers ?"
Vranitzky glances your way.
Runi silently strokes his beard as he listens to Toran's apology. When the
older Dwarf finishes, Vranitzky enters the conversation with his unusually
cheerful tone and Runi frowns even deeper as he listens to him. When
Vranitzky is done, Runi says to him, "In this matter, I'm afraid I must
direct you to Agarhaz, the Thane of my clan. He will tell you if there is
anything he feels that you can do. I am not in a position to allow you
either of you to contribute to the reconstruction efforts, even if I would.
Especially you, Toran. He was little pleased when I told him of what
happened and I am not at all sure that he will want you even near the
books."
Toran takes a deep breath and smiles a bit, "Thank you Master Runi, I shall
make an appointment to see Thane Agarhaz at once. I will pay the
consequences for my actions." Toran turns and looks at the new dwarf enter
the room cheerfully. He bows to him and then returns his attention back to
Runi, "Please, allow me to show you that I meant no harm to you or this
room. Let me treat you to lunch at the Longbeard..please"
Runi sits in silence for a moment or two, still stroking his beard, and
thinking. Then he sits back up, sighs as he stares at the papers in front
of him, forces a smile, and then says, "I would love to, Master Toran. It
has been quite a while since I was last in Master Khulain's bar. But first
there is something I must to attend to. Wait just a moment, I won't be
long." Having said that, Runi stands up from his seat and walks across the
room a ways and begins speaking with another Dwarf who has a cart of books
with him. As the two speak, the other Dwarf glances shortly over at Toran
and then brings his attention back to Runi. He nods to Runi, glances back
at Toran for just a moment and then walks off. Runi then returns to Toran
and Vranitzky, smiles a bit, and says, "There. Shall we leave now?"
Toran smiles as he turns toward the door. Toran stops before Vranitzky and
says, "Care to join us clansman,'tis be good food and drink at the
Longbeard. And I could use your company also, 'tis I think I had a bit of
explaining to do." Toran turns as he leaves for the Longbeard, "'Tis you
would also be covered by me"
Vranitzky turns to Toran and smiling says "I am sure that master Runi will
forgive you for what you have done the other day, and, who knows, yoiu
might even get him drunk enough to make it even!" He the turns to Runi: "I
shall stay here and try to find what I was looking for. I am sure there is
no better place in the land than the Hall of Mazarbul for hunting down
information. If the books are still intact that is!" He then bows to Runi
and then turns to Toran: "Good bye sir, I hope I'll meet you again soon
enough. In fact I think my master, Thalin was looking for you in the
forges." Vranitzky then bows to Toran and turns to the nearest bookshelf
where he starts browsing.
Runi heads south into the Greathall of Thrain the Old.Runi has left.
Longbeard Tavern(#7856RtAMU)
A large, cozy space opens up before you, a natural hollow in the rock
turned into a tavern. Two openings lead out, cloak racks of cherry and
brass attached to the walls beside them. A long bar of mahogany wood lies
along one side of the room, assorted cups, mugs and flagons neatly lining
the wall behind it. Upon the other wall is built a recessed fireplace, a
shaft drawing most of the smoke up and out of the way. Across the space are
set tables, simple and sturdy, meant to be used daily. The smokey
atmoshere is comfortable and pleasant. Warm light fills the chamber from
the fireplace and torches in iron sconces upon the smooth walls. The place
gives an impression of simple comfort. Leaning against the wall in one
corner near the bar is a younger dwarf who looks sociable.

Obvious exits:
Up leads to Guest Quarters.
West leads to Great Stair, Upper Landing.
Khulain cheerily says, "Ho there Toran, and welcome to the Longbeard
Tavern!"
Runi sits at the Bar.
Vranitzky has left.
Runi walks into the bar, with Toran right behind him, and steps up to the bar, and takes a seat. He motions to Khulain, who walks over to him, glancing at his companion and smiling. He takes Runi's order and then looks over again at Toran, as if expecting him to say something.
Toran takes a seat at the bar and nods to Master Khulain as he brings him
his usual. Toran takes a quick look around the room of patrons. As the
drink in placed before him, Toran brings the mug to his lips and takes a
sip. Placing the mug back on the bar, Toran turns to Runi and says, "So
tell me Master Runi, What brings you to the Lonely Mountain? You family
always been from here?"
Toran sits at the Bar.
A long mahogany bar that gleams in the light.
You look around the Bar and see....
Runi.
Runi takes a long sip from his mug and then places it back on the bar.
"Most always," he says, "My family was living here when the Dragon came
and withdrew to Emyn Engrin. My father was among those who marched with
Dain to the Battle of the Five Armies and was among the first to make his
home here after the retaking of the Mountain."
Toran ahhs as he cups his mug with both hands. Toran stares at the bar as
he says, "My family's history is long and distinguished. My father, Talin,
was a prominent and profitable merchant for the Iron Hills. I was an
excellent fighter, for my father was one of the best in our family. My
family can be traced as far back as 1693 in the Ered-Luin. But when my
father and I heard about the freeing of this mountain from the dragon
Smaug, we left to take up the fight. We arrived then the orcs and goblins
came down from the hills. We fought bravely and defend those from the Blue
Mountains and those from our mountain. I was overwhelmed by several orcs
and they knocked me out. But my last vision was seeing my father being run
through by a orc blade and left for dead. I managed to kill the orc and
take his head. I fell to the ground and was left for dead for several
hours. But I made a promise to my father before Mahal took him to defend
the mountain that he gave his life to free." With that, Toran finishes the
mug of ale in his hand and orders another.
Runi looks over at Toran as he speaks. Then he says, "Well, my father was
fortunate enough to survive the battle, else I wouldn't be here, eh? But my
uncle, his brother, was not so lucky, and died that day. They, and a few
other Dwarves were swarmed by a pack of Warg riding Orcs. They held out for
long but after my uncle took the head of one of the Wargs, its Orc rider
lept from its back and grappled him to the ground and slit his thoat with a
long knife. My father swiftly slew the foul creature but it was too late." Runi looks down at the bar for a moment and then takes another swig from his mug. "I'm a huskarlar of our house, by the way," he says, "My father keeps his own axe, but he has given me that of his brother, though they look almost identical. They were forged in the smithies of Emyn Engrin by my father's father's brother, and I wear it proudly and think of my uncle."
Toran smiles as he pulls out his sword. He lays it on the table and shows
it off proudly, "This is Korgano. It belonged to my father and it was given
to me after his death. It has never lost its shine and it's the only thing
in the world that I cherish besides my piccolo. It is the only thing I
have left of my father. I have very few family around here. Justiciar Fwari
is the only kin I have around here. He's my only blood cousin and he came
here shortly after I did." Toran puts his sword back in its sheath.
"Cherish your father Master Runi, You will never get another one.." Toran
returns to his drink, but it appears that he is rather disturned.
Runi glances your way.
"Oh, I do, I do," says Runi, who seems to be deeply analyzing some object
that lies beyond the wall in front of them. "He's taught me most everything
I know. Well, maybe not everything. Most of the important things, anyway.
And I have learned much from my grandfather, Frodlin, as well. He is my
oldest living blood relative and will be 247 this year. He has been often
in my thoughts lately."
Toran grins as he finishes his drink. He turns to Runi and places a hand on
his shoulder, "Wish him for me if you please. I must depart, I have duties
that I must perform. Feel free to order anything, Master Khulain will put
it on my tab." Toran rises from his seat and heads towards the Great Stair.
Toran looks back, with an obviously depress look on his face. Toran
flashes a smile as he says, "Thank you for joining me for lunch Master
Runi." Toran turns and leaves with the flash of his cloak trailing behind
him.
"I will tell him you said so," says Runi, as Toran rises from the bar. He
smiles back at Toran as the latter turns back to speak to him. "No, thank
you," he says, "It was most refreshing and liberating to have such a
cordial conversation with you. I hope we can do it again some time."
You head out of the tavern onto the Great Stair, Upper Landing.
