Market Square(#17639Rno)
The splendors of the Market of Pelargir. Traders and merchants from all over the world are known here, frequent travelers of the seas and plains, their wares delight the eye and dazzle the senses. Rich fabrics from the southern lands spill out of temporary wooden stands designed only for today. Over there, a merchant displays a fine selection of spices and herbs for all uses medicinal and non. Dyes and ungents clutter a stand over by the central fountain, the small, darker, finely-dressed woman selling them smiling at you as she attends to one of the daughters of the aristocratic lords of the countryside. Perfumes, cosmetics, tapestries, armors, weapons, wines and liqueurs, all is available here. Even livestock -everything from cows and sheep, to the sturdy horses of Rohan and the speedy, rangier ones of the south - stand, ready to be sold, in the far southern end of this immensely expansive square.

Elowyn looks up at the scout that entered her tent. She inclines her head towards him in greeting and then looks to Delios as he removes his armor. She frowns slightly at the scabs and scars upon his body. She rises from her seat and walks over to him. \"The House is well an proserous, but do pray tell me that you have sought a healer for those wound to make sure they have been cleaned properly.\" She does not wait for a responce as she signals for one of her assistant to bring her some fresh cloth and salves.
[Delios(#29016)] Frowning slightly at the responses of the Lady Elowyn, Delios reaches a hand out to her, and lets the other motion back to her seat. \"Rest, M\'lady. These wounds are old and have all but disapeared. At least 3 seasons old to be sure...some more recent. Nothing that nature could not mend by what she provided.\" He smiles slightly, his eyes flitting over the figure of the makeshift healess. But never the less, he does not fight off the attendants. \"And your position within our manor? Does it suite you? Such lofty responsibilities accompany your title that I would dare not dream of taking even a aid position to it. Come...tell me in full, I have long been gone from the places of our lands.\"
[Belahir(#28934)] The young man nods to the two immediately before him in the tent though his nod is hollow, without feeling of any kind. He drops the cloak that he was using for his own and rings the rain out of it. Without saying anything he then places it over the wounded closest to the open part of the pavillion, to try and block some of the rain from them. Without saying a word he steps back out into the rain and walks to the nearest wounded. He moves the man, after checking to see how serious is his wound, so that he is no longer in the ever gathering mud. He moves to the next man, giving what comfort he can, telling them that the healers will be with them soon. Soon he arrives at a young child who has been severely injured though overlooked by the healers because of the mass of people. Gathering the young girl in his arms he walks surely and quickly towards the pavillion. Placeing her on a table he calls out loudly for a healer. The girls legs are broken and she has severe burns, she is alive, but unconscious...
Elowyn ,ingoring Delios\' reassurances, begins to take a wet clean cloth and starts to clean the newest of wounds gently and carefully. \"I welcome the added respon..\" She is cut off by the cry for a healer. She sets aside the coth as she entones to Delios sternly. \"You will lets me attend to t hose wounds soon.\" She then looks to her assistant and barks an order sharply. \"Get me some fresh cloth and burn ointment! \" She rushes over to where the girl is with the scout. She cries back to another assistant. \"Get be some wood for splints as well!\"
Belahir has laid the girl out on the ground for there is not access to a table of any sort. He did his best to be careful of her legs but he knew that if he did not move her at all she probably would not survive. He steps back as the Lady comes over to assist. He whispers to her in askance as she comes over. \"What can I do, m\'lady?\" his words are strained. \"There must be something I can do to hlep this poor little girl.\" He speaks calmly, though it is obvious that he forces himself to do so.
The sister of Imrahil slowly pulls the sheet up over the body of a man burned beyond recognition. Her head bows for a moment as she offers up a prayer for the man and then sighing deeply she turns from the bed and wearily wipes her hands over her face, rubbing her eyes as if that will deny the fatigue that clearly shows upon her face. Softly she speaks to her assistant, \"Please see that these soiled things are burned\" Taking but a few steps into the center of healing triage area she calls two male healers to her side and whispers softly, \"Please see that this body is removed as quickly as possible. There are too many children here and I do not want them further horrified by the face of death.\"
Elowyn looks to the girl\'s mangled body with grief and some dismay. She looks to one of her assistant as she calls out urgently. \"See if the Lady Ivriniel or Lady Kerowyn is around. I am going to need thier help with her.\" Her voice quavers slightly as she start to tend to the burns upon her body. She cleans the burns and applies ointment to the burns.
An infusion of of the blossoms from the yarrow plant has been made in great quantities to deal with the massive burn victims from the dragon\'s breath. The healers and assistants work together as cool compresses of this infusion are applied to scorched skin of the many victims in the healers tents. The wrinkled fingers of Lady Ivriniel dip yet another cloth into a bowl of the cool mixture and gently lay it upon the scarlet skin of the woman laying upon the bed. Hearing her name from across the room she gently says to the woman, \"Rest easy now. Another healer will be continuing this care to help ease the pain and start the healing process.\" With that she rises from her chair and walks to where Elowyn is working on a child. Smiling gently, she says, \"It looks like you have things in hand Lady Rovacil.\" Stopping for a moment her hand rests upon the shoulder of the woman and then says, \"Please continue. There are many to see to yet today.\"
Elowyn looks up at the Lady Ivriniel thankfully, but with worry written upon her brow. \"Yes, I can tend to this girl\'s wounds, but..\" Her small delicate hands motions to bother her badly broken legs. \"I beg for you help on aiding me in the care of her legs. I am afraid my knowledge of healing does not extend to breaks of this magnitude..\"
Belahir nods to the lady before him and strides off, looking through the tent for any sign of the Princess or the Lady Kerowyn. He move quickly, and with a great measure of care, his natural dextarity allowing him to safely avoid the many wounded on the ground. Muttering something about wishing he was taller, he lloks around and around. Eventualy, after about 10 minutes, he has covered the whole pavillion with no sign of her. With sunken shoulders he walks back to the Lady Elowyn, only to discover that the princess is already there. He sighs a sigh of relief and nods, showing a slight smile to Ivriniel. \"Good day, m\'lady. Now that you are found, I ask that you give me some occupation, or I will go mad. I must do something for these poor souls, for I have had the honor of being one of those unwounded in the fighting. I have no skill in healing, can I carry something for you? Or fetch something?\" the man truly does look almost in pain...he feels for the people all around him and he simply cannot stand by and watch fellow gondorians die while he does nothing.
[Rananar(#18669)] Finding his way through the clogged street opening southwards into the square, Rananar of the Riddermark comes with no entourage. Hooded as he is, his face can only be glimpsed at times, and surely he notes the places where the direly wounded are cared for. Yet even so, this is the market, and a handful of merchants and hucksters have come forward to set up their stalls -- giving the healers all the room they desire, and more, for their labors -- and hawk their wares. After a few moments long pause, the northman moves to the scant rows, a jingling purse at his hip.
Nodding her head to the Lady Rovacil, the sister of Imrahil runs trained hands over the thin legs of the child, feeling the obvious breaks with slender hands. Softly she says to Elowyn, \"Has the child been able to consume any boneset since she arrived in the tent?\" The raven head of the woman bent in concentration as she speaks to her assistant, \"Strips of white linen, wooden splints and...\", her voice pauses as the sound of bone grating sounds. Wincing slightly as she holds the girls legs steady, Ivriniel says, \"Elowyn. Place your hand here while I check the alignment of her legs\" Glancing up at Belahir, the sister of Finduilas gives the scout a cursory nod and smile as she says, \"We can use all the hands available for help here Belahir.\" With that she adds, \'Wash your hands first and if you are serious, get a bowl of yarrow and some cloths and start applying compresses to those that are burned.\"
Elowyn winces as she hears the bones being moved into place. She places her hands where the Princess directed. She shakes her head as she forgot the boneset. \"No, your highness, I have not been able to give her much except for some ointment fo her burns. I called for you when I say the severity of her wounds.\" She looks to Belahir. \"Belahir, found that she had been overlooked by the assistants.\"
[Rananar(#18669)] Passing stalls, usually with nothing but a glance or two to each, on occasion Rananar pauses to study the wares more closely, whether it\'s to finger lengths of brightly-dyed cloth or to consider gaudy knives encrusted with semi-precious stones with brief bemusement. But then he\'s on, until he comes to a stall where various spices are being sold, and with that merchant does he enter a brief discussion.
[Kerowyn(#10288)] The other sought for Lady, Kerowyn of the Mark, marked by dress and hair color, though both are hard to discern behind soot and blood as she enters square from one of ths side alleys - a depository for the dead, now. Her time is immediately occupied by the wounded there, outside the makeshift healing pavilions, where men and women and children await their turn at ministration.
Belahir nods quickly and, before complying with what he has been told, he walks over to a corner and lays down the weapons that he carries with him. In the service of his country he goes from soldier to medic. \"Indeed I am serious m\'lady, I have seen enough of my comrades, even my own family, hurt wounded, and dead on the battlefield and I have no wish for anyone to to die, especailly if I wcould prevent it.\" He strides off now in search of then strides off in search of of water with which to wash his hands, as well as a bowl of yarrow. Wehen they are found he moves to the nearest wounded, applying the mixture to burns as well as cleaning their wounds whcih he has had to do many times on the battlefield.
[Delios(#29016)] For long while, Delios has sat unnoticed within the Pavilion\'s shelter, his armor and weaponry on the ground before him. Quiet eyes have watched as the healers have worked without patience or show of tire upon victim after victim, and now, this girl. Still pale and cold with the bite of the winter air, seeing as his cloak no longer rests about his shoulders, a few words attempt to escape the shivering lips. \"Lady Elowyn...might I assist in any way? No healer am I...but I can follow order.\" His eyes glance about to the others around the girl, not wanting to interupt, but still wanting to help none the less.
[Rananar(#18669)] The banter that might usually come from a pitched negotiation over some merchant\'s wares is gone, washed away by the somber mood of a charnel house. And so Rananar and the merchant discuss quietly, occasionally gesturing at a small cask that the merchant has lifted from the ground to set before them upon the table. A pause ensues as the merchant works to open the cask, briefly, for Rananar to dip a finger within and taste whatever it is. And then, nodding his head, he takes the purse from his belt and opens it to count out a few tarnished coins that have seen better days.
[Elowyn(#1325)] As the Lady Rovacil assists Princess Ivriniel with this girl\'s broken legs, she looks up to Delios as he addresses her. \"Your help with be gratefully needed. Wash your hands, where Belahir is, and then assist him in applting the yarrow to the burns of the people that have yet to be treated!\" She sighs with nervousness as she holds the girls leg while Ivriniel checks it over to see if it is aligned.
[Belahir(#28934)] Completely out of his element, Belahir nevertheless, attempts to help all those that are wounded around him. He is much more accustomed to the labor of inflicting wounds, not that of curing them and he has little talent for the later. However, he has seen a great many battles and combat in his short lifetime, more then most. He knoew how to set good temporary dressings and what wounds need immediate treatment and which do not. And so he works quickly, occasionally summoning a more proficient healer to work on a more serious case, but he goes about the tent helping those who he can. He looks up at Delios and nods to him, \"Brother, I need your help with this man.\" He motions to a large man that is badly burned but has slipped to the far end of the tent, next to the pouring rain. \"Help me move him ot of this slop.\" He agian gestures to the mud.
The head of the Princess is bowed in deep concentration as she carefully places thin splints of wood upon the leg of the girl, carefully winding a long strip of clean linen around the leg to hold the splints in place. Tugging at the end of the material slightly to assure the tightness she nods her head as she says aloud, \"That should do the trick\" Looking up to Elowyn with a tired smile on her face she inquires, \'Now. Would you like to do the next leg?\" Brushing one hand across the forehead of the child Ivriniel softly kisses her brow as the child lays sleeping after consuming a drought to ease her pain.
[Rananar(#18669)] The coins exchange hands, slipping into an inner pocket within a robe, and the cask is set in the crook of Rananar\'s strong arm. He spends a few moments considering which way to leave, and eventually settles with going away to the lane that opens in the southeast of the market. He passes tents and men-at-arms and healers, and gives them wide berth so as not to disturb them before he\'s gone with his cask.
Elowyn \'s eyes widen was the princess offers to let her set the other leg. \"Oh no, your Highness! I do not have the skill at setting a break like this. I would be afraid to cripple this young girl.\" She looks down at the lass with a pitiful look. \"I will just watch and learn, if you do not mind...\" She brushes her hand over the girl\'s face to clear the hair.
[Belahir(#28934)] Delios is distracted, himsself working amid the wounded and dying, and so cannot hear Belahir\'s request. Grimacing the young scout braces himself and with whatever aid the wounded man can give him, lifts the large man up and manages to drag him away from the cold and rain. He smiles as the man thanks him but waves it off. He walks over towards whrere the two healers he knows are and addresses them. \"My ladies, it has been raining for long, and in this cold I would be surprised if half these people did not die of frostbite! Is there someplace dry that we could move these people?\"
A gentle smile is given to Lady Rovacil as the sister of Imrahil says, \"Come. I will be beside you every step of the way, guiding you. This is something you have need to learn. What if your caravan were attacked on the way to Rohan and one of your men had a broken leg?\" Softly she pats the arm of Elowyn, \'Have faith in yourself.\"
[Leif(#28069)] Rain pelts down the silhouette of the rider that approaches the large pavillion where the Rovacil arms are displayed. The moon is hidden and but for a few quivering light the market place is dark, but not silent. Too many moans and too many voices comes frm the pavilion. More carefully than the yesterday, Leif dismounts and ties his horse before entering. Many an infirmary he seen on many a battlefield of the west, yet as always, his throat tightens as he comes inside smelling death and pain. Sighing he moves along a few coat, looking for some some healess he knows well or perhaps the lady Rovacil herself. It is Delios yet he first sees and toward him he moves, \"Good evening..\" He smiles to Elowyn, a proud and pleased smile.
Elowyn \'s face weary face pales at the thought and nods her head. She moves down tot he other other leg and feels her fingers along it till she finds the break. She swallows hard as she prepares to set the break. She looks up for a reassuring nod from Ivriniel before she pregresses. She looks up and states a silent pray to the Valor and then sets it with a chilling pop. \"Please, did I do it right?\" She looks to the Master Healess as she holds the bone in place. Her concentration is so great she does not notice those who come and go about her so Leif\'s smiles goes unnoticed.
Leif\'s smile doesnt die but turn into a nodding. Fearing to disturb now, he kneels slowly by the wounded smile, watching the lass, her tensed features. He tighten his jaw as the bone is put back in place, knowing too much the pain himself. He looks warmly at the child, knowing not if she can hear him \"It is done, no fear now, it will mend... \" he turns to Ivriniel, inquiring about the truth of his words then to Elowyn \"Well done, I didnt know you...
Belahir has held silent while Elowyn applied the necessary treatment to the young girl\'s legs but now he speaks up once more, glancing back towards the wet and freezing of the wounded. \"My lady, I said is there any place whree these pople can get dry? They are freezing and unless something is done quickly there will be little point in treating their burns...\" he trails off looks up towards the man that has entered the tent. \"I doubt the lass can hear you, for she\'s unconscious...\" he shrugs, seeing that it could do no harm, and purhaps she is only sleeping now. He looks back to Elowyn, \"Nevermind, m\'lady I will take care of it.\" He then turns to the man, \"You. Come with me.\"
Elowyn looks up as she hears Belahir\'s request. She looks to him in throught. \"Up Ringlo street is the Merchant\'s guild. Transport the wounded that do not need special care there. The healers will prepare the other to be transported. If they protest, tell them you are doing it upon my authority. I am not of this guild, but I do carry some authority here...\"
Leif watches the young girl face for a sign of awakeness and nods \"Aye, better so... Poor little thing.\" Leif says moved to pity. He stands and nods \"I will join you, I must see yet someone before, sir...\" he searches for a name to give Belahir and finds none, a broad smile \"Well sir just\". Looking down at Elowyn, \"Did you see Kerowyn, I am sure she is here but, well where ?\"
Focused on feeling the set of the bone, Ivriniel responds not to either Elowyn or Leif until she is certain the bone is set correctly and then she smiles at the woman, \"Perfect. Now. Splint and bind the leg\" With that she nods her head to the blonde man politely and turns her gaze to Belahir and exclaims, \"Your cloak!\" Turning to one of the assistants she says \"go to my Lady in Waiting and have her retrieve this scouts cloak.\" Flushed with embarassment the elder Imrazor says, \"I do apologize for not returning your garment before now. The trip from Anorien has been a grueling one and I had your cloak packed in a trunk for safe keeping until I could see you again.\"
Belahir nods and smiles, one of his first for quite some time. \"Indeed my lady, I doubt that I will have need of your name to persuade them.\" His grin is almost impish, as if he truly wishes for the merchants to \"protest\". He then turns to Leif and asks, \"My lord, Imust ask a favor of you. Will you go to the nearest, unburnt inn and get them to bring as much warm water as they have here. Purhaps we can keep these peple from dying before they reach the healers.\" With out waiting for a response the man turns and heads towards a group of idle townspeople that have come in hope of finding their lost loved ones. Attempting to organize them almost militarily, for that is what he knows, he barks orders, and tries to get them to grap some of the less seriously wounded and to follow him. He nods to Ivriniel, \"Thank you m\'lady, but I have hardly missed it. I like the rain!\" he calls as he grunts and lifts a man over his shoulders who is too weak to walk. With that he heads off towards the merchent\'s guild.
Elowyn\'s gaze looks down to the girl\'s leg as she issues a sigh of relief. She sets the wodden splint on each side of the youth\'s leg and then lossly ties cloth around it so she can set it correctly. She then tightens each knot slowly till it is firmly in place, so the bone will not slips out of place. She then looks to Ivriniel for approval before she proclaims that she is finished.
[Leif(#28069)] \"Tell me where is the nearest inn and I will go in a blink\" Leif replies to Belahir, as this last offer but his back to his answer. He looks a bit helplessly around \"Do you know one still standing ?\". He then stops asking question since many of his previous are yet unanswered or forget perhaps. Patiently he waits for the lady Rovacil to finish.
Testing the tightness of each knot with her finger, Ivriniel looks to the woman with a smile of approval and says, \"Good job Elowyn.\" Picking up the child\'s hand she turns it over to examine the gash upon it and says softly, \'Not even enough skin left to stitch this closed. Apply a sprinkle of woundwort in the line of the gash and lightly bind it .\" The assistant to whom Ivriniel sent in search of the cloak returns with a curtsy and says, \"Your Grace, the cloak you requested.\" Thanking the woman with a smile Ivriniel takes the cloak and walks to where Belahir stands and says, \"Again. I do apologize for the delay in returning this to you as well as the essence of roses that clings to the material.\" A twinkling in tired grey eyes shows the spirit of the Princess as she says, \"Perhaps the other men will not overly harass you about its scent?\", grinning in obvious enjoyment for the first time today as a broad smile tilts the corners of her lips.
[Belahir(#28934)] The young scout and his \"entourage\" return, to come back and finsish the job that they have started. He continues to work, and in response to Leif\'s question he sasy, I have no idea where an inn might be but something must be left standing.\" to the princess he thanks her,\"I most graciously accept this cloak my fair lady. And I care nothing of whatever other men think for the scent will remind me of you and I will take it with me always. \" He flahses a smile and a wink and then says, \"but my lady I must go...I have not found any of my family and I do not know if they have survived this night or not. Good luck to you all!\" With that he strides back down the street.
Ivriniel calls to the scout as he leaves, \"Fare thee well Belahir. I wish you well in your search for your family.\" Another victim is brought into the healing area and the Princess shakes her head as if to clear the fatigue from her mind and glances down at the one elegant white satin gown that is now dingy, burned and soiled. Laughing to herself she says aloud, \'I do look a fright. Tis a wonder that the patients do not pass out from the shock.\" The mirth of Ivriniel perhaps due to the weary long hours of tending to the victims of those hurt in the chaos in the Square.
Elowyn looks to Ivriniel as she teads to the girl\'s wounds. She looks over to Leif and offers him a waery smiles. her face is drawn in slightly from over work and worry, but she is trouping on. \"Is there anything else we can do for this you lady, your Highness?\" She looks down and sighs softly as she wonders what happened to this girl\'s parents.
[Leif(#28069)] \"Dont make me regret to be free from wounds, milady\" Leif chuckles as Ivriniel\'s mirth seems endemic and spread around them. His features hardens yet, the shadow of a second as ELowyn finnally smiles to him \"This man has some good sense, hot water and clean clothes to make bandage, making a fire would be the best, of course, in a nearby tent perhaps ?\"
[Gaelas(#28476)] Not close to any of these people, is a tall man, witch grayish black hair. He is at his knees, with the sleaves of his blue robe rolled up to his elbows, arms caked in blood, dried and new from other wounded he has tended to. He looks at the one, man or woman, it\'s hard to tell with the burns on this body. Silently he pushes the eyes down on the figure and says something quietly in Sindarin. Gaelas stands making his way for some water, for a drink and to try and wash his arms some what. a plain dead faced look on his face.
A few steps are taken by the healer before she stops suddenly and turns very pale, wobbling slightly from side to side. Closing silvery grey eyes as she stands there quietly, Ivriniel obviously struggles to stay on her feet. Finally an assistant notices the plight of the elder Imrazor and comes to her side, \"M\'Lady. You must rest. There are others that can serve the injured while you sleep. Now come. I beg of you to heed my words. Your brother will be incensed to learn of your lack of rest\", the voice of the assistant holding just enough censure to get the agreement of Ivriniel. Smiling gently the sister of Imrahil says, \"Lend me your arm as suddenly I am as weak a kitten. I will rest for a few hours. But you must awaken me if I am needed.\" With that the Master healer of Gondor leaves the healing tent.
Elowyn tends to the girl\'s wounds and finshes up, from what she can tell. She wipes her brow with a cloth and then looks over to Leif. She lets out a weary sigh and walks over to him. \"I have had so little rest int he past two days....I look forward to resting at the Fare.\" Leif should know full well, Elowyn\'s meaning of rest is making a tidy profit at the fare having her merchant peddle thier wares with her overseeing.
Leif shakes his head, indeed knowing full well what she is meaning. \"Yes you will rest at the Fare. I will watch you warefully about that, dont worry, dear\" Leif says mellowishly. He then smiles and watches her, \"You look like a true blodmaegden, it\'s a compliment...\" he bows his head.
Gaelas dips his arms into a cold bucket of water, one that the healers have been using to clean themsleves with. the blood runs off, but his arms are still dyed red temporarly. he splashes some of the water in his face and looks up to Keroywn, having been awake all night and most of the day today, he doesn\'t really have a concept of time. \" May I ask, what time is it?\" he says before going for some drinking water
[Kerowyn(#10288)] THe blonde healer, nods. \"It is night. I no longer know the hours, I fear. Only the count of the dead.\"
Leif shrugs \"It\'s noble yet, look Kerowyn she...\" he halts suddenly and smiles \"Did you see her by chance ? I guess she must be red from feet to head... She surely hasnt sleep since yesterday, I know her...\" He sighs and says \"Help them the best you can, do you need water or bandage, we had chance to be unscathed yesterday, we must use this chance to help now.\"
Elowyn sighs deeply and lays her head upon her hand and closes her eyes. \"She is a better woman than I. I works this long and this hard is not sometimes I am used to, but of course dragons do not come this way everyday...\" She rests briefly with her eyes closed as she tries to gather her strength.
[Kerowyn(#10288)] Indeed, the Master healer has not slept, and it is evident in the slowness of her steps as she approaches the pair, Rider and Merchant, laying a gentle hand upon the latter\'s shoulder. \"You have done well, mi\'lady. You should rest.\" And that is all, for she continues on her way, pausing now and then to offer advice to one of the apprentice healers as they work feverishly still.
[Leif(#28069)] \"Nonsense, you cant compare to her in that domain, she is our master healer in Rohan, few have her skill in healing or her will to do it. You have other qualities, and I thik you should rest as I will tell her as soon as I...\" Leif halts feeling a presence coming near them \"Kerowyn !\" But she moves about. Lending his hand to the tired Elowyn, he smiles \"Come, you\'ll show me this inn and we\'ll rest a bit.\"
