Where
Dol Amroth

The Chamberlain questions Aearwen a little too closely regarding an incident involving Melethron in Rohan

Chamberlain\'s Residency

The Royal Chamberlain\'s office opens up to some four hundred square feet. At the left side of the room cabinets line the walls, the few that are open show many volumes and scrolls. There is no dust upon it\'s shelves as you can guess the proprietress uses the information they contain frequently. The floor is made of oak and polished to a dull shine. A window that spans from floor to ceiling is inlaid on the far side of the room. A large U-shaped desk sits strangely facing the window facing out over Dol Amorth. Ornate, expensive drapes hang to the sides of the great window. A comfortable looking chair of a rich mahogany and soft fabric lining sits behind the desk. There are no chairs in front of the desk, leading to an assumption that those seeking the ear of the Chamberlain must stand.

On the right hand side of the room are several bookshelves filled. Their titles are numerous and varied and few have dust showing that they too are read and gone through often. In the far right corner, on the far side of the desk another chair sits in the corner facing out, three other chairs circling it facing the single chair. A small table stands next to each of the three chairs, a slightly larger one standing next to the single chair. It appears as if the Chamberlain uses these chairs for the more important of her meetings. Also on the right is a hearth that provides the room with warmth during the colder evenings and weather. Upon the mantle of the hearth are several candelabras and two sconces that sit aside the rock ledge. At the center of the mantle sits a richly engraved box, designed with a golden dragon on the lid. Two crisscrossed swords, one designed for sport and one designed for war, are set over the hearth. Several paintings line the spaces on the walls throughout the room filling it out without taking up much space.

[Gweneth(#17847)] The rain softly pelts on the windows of the room, showing a dreary Dol Amroth out beyond them. The hearth is ablaze and warm, casting a soft glow to the room. The only other lights are the few candles on the mantle and on the desk in the center of the room. There Gweneth sits, a pen in her hand slowly moving over the paper under it. The door is strangly open, a pair of Knights at the doorway.

Soft footsteps can be heard moving down the carpeted hallway, Lady Aearwen strides quickly as she makes her way to the open door. Nodding briefly to the knights standing there, she pauses as her eyes glance around the room for Gweneth. Seeing her cousin seated at the desk she says, \"You wished to have a late chat?\"

Gweneth nods, not turing around just yet, \"Close the door, would you dear?\" She finishes with a quick flick of her hand, then gently blows on the page. She puts it on the top of a stack of similar papers, sets down the pen and reaches for a steaming cup on the corner of her desk.

Waving her hand to the knights standing there, Aearwen says, \"Close the door behind you, would you please?\" Walking on into the room, she sighs softly as she flexes her neck from side to side. Her soft hands go up to her neck and rub gently as she walks towards the fire, \"What did you have on your mind Gweneth? \"

Gweneth pushes the chair from the desk and stands, streching out her arms over her head, \"I was going to ask you the same question.\" She turns to face Aearwen and motions towards the chairs near the fire, \"Shall we sit?\"

Aearwen shrugs both shoulders and rotates them around in a circle as she walks to the chairs. Settling into the plush chairs she smoothes the lines of her skirt as she leans back in relaxation. Looking at Gweneth with puzzlement in her blue eyes she asks, \"You were wondering the same thing about me? Pardon me for a bit of confusion, the day has been endless.\"

Gweneth sits and opens one of the bottles on the small table near her chair. She pours a dark brown liquid into the steaming drink. \"Well, I suppose both apply. I remember sometime ago you said some words and I am deciding to hold you to them,\" she looks over to Aearwen out of the side of her eye, \"Frightening isn\'t it?\" She leans back in her chair, bringing the cup with her. She sips lightly from it and nods, \"Would you like something to drink?\" She pauses for a quick answer then gets on with the meat of her question, \"Basically, I want to know what is wrong with Galdorim and You.\"

Watching Gweneth as she pours a dark brown liquid into the steaming drink, Aearwen says nothing but a frown does furrow across her smooth brow. Shaking her head slightly she declines the offer of a drink of her own. A smile curves her lips as she inquires of her cousin, \"And which words do you intend to hold me too Gweneth?\" The question concering Galdorim she leaves unanswered as she folds her hands in her lap and awaits Gweneth\'s response.

[Gweneth(#17847)] A coy grin curls on Gweneth\'s lips, \"We\'ll get to that, first things first. If you do not wish to speak to me on it, then, that is fine. Just say it is none of my business nor concern and I will drop it, but I am worried about both of you and would like to offer any consoledation or advice if it would be useful.\" She finishes and sips slowly from her cup.

Thoughtful eyes gaze at Gweneth as her cousin deliberates her words, fingers lace in Aearwen\'s lap as she finally says, \"My relationship with Galdorim has always been a private matter, but I care not to discuss it with you. Our duties, mine as envoy and healer and his as Commander have kept us apart for far too long.\" Her eyes grow distant as her voice softens, \"The man is totally devoted to me, I could find no one with more devotion and love to offer for a lifetime\" Shaking her head as her gaze returns to Gweneth she inquiries with a note of censure, \"As I recall, dear cousin, you had nothing good to say about the man when last we saw one another.\"

Gweneth gives a slight shrug, \"Who says I have anything good to say about him now?\" She raises an eyebrow and sips her drink then shakes her head, \"No, he has grown a great deal in the near year we have not spoken. And I see his devotion, but beyond that I know little of the man and honestly, could not give a reliable opinion of the man without speaking to him a great deal more.\" She grins, \"I may be judgmental, but I am fair,\" she adds lowering her lips to her cup once more, quietly, \"Most of the time.\"

Laughing softly at the honesty that comes from her cousin, Aearwen says, \"True, very true. I do not think I have ever heard truer words spoken.\" A sly grin curls her lips, \"Galdorim is the sort of man that is hard to find these days. Loyal, brave, devoted, tender, loving, kind and thoughtful... so thoughtful. I could go on and on about all of the thoughtful things he has done in the last 18 months. \" Sighing softly, \"One of my favorites was when we were in Caldur. The desert was so hot, sand blowing everywhere, supplies were low as were the morales of everyone, it was a bad time. And lo and behold, I walk into the healers tent one day and there lying on my cot was a hand full of desert wild flowers and a note from him. True, many would turn up their nose at such a gift, but that is what endears me to the man, that he thought to brighten my day with a spot of color and the scent of those beautiful flowers.\"

Gweneth nods slowly, \"Then why are things not,\" she pauses trying to find the correct word, \"Working it seems? Though, yes, I will admit, those are all wonderful sounding things. I have always thought him mindful, if naive.\"

Aearwen nods her head in agreement, \"Bless his soul, he is naive. And again, that is another think I like about him, he isnt jaded by the world and the evil that exists among men.\" Her lips thin as she presses them together, then finally she spits out her next words, \"The problem between Galdorim and myself is an incident on the plains of Rohan. The subject is a very painful one, one that has caused both of us and the other party involved, much heartache and tears.\" Her eyes close as her head tilts back for a second, \"If only I could replay that time, things would be resolved.\"

Gweneth raises her eyebrows, \"Another man?\" She contemplates it for a momment then sips at her drink, saying to herself, \"Impressive.\" She looks back up to Aearwen, \"Do you wish to share what happened? Or no?\"

Soft laughter rings out, \"It was no secret in the entire encampment as the other man and I came back to the camp as the sun was rising.\" Her eyes twinkle as she looks over at Gweneth and teases, \"But before you get too excited about those words, let me clarify something. I rushed from the healers tent in anger, out of the protection of the camp with no thought of the wargs in the area. Melethron, concerned about my well being, followed me and as we stood there talking, a warg slithered through the tall grasses and suddenly lunged for my throat. It was an intense battle between the beast and Melethron, he was badly injured but did succeed in killing the evil creature. Alone in the middle of no where with tensions high from battling for our lives.\" A blush covers her cheeks as she continues, \"To make a longer story short, we held onto one another in the silence of the night, standing under the stars, thankful to be alive. And suddenly, to my amazment, he spoke of his love for me\"

Gweneth chokes on her drink. She sets down her cup and reaches for a small cloth from her pocket to dab her chin with. She reasks, hoarsly still coughing, \"His love for you?\" She shakes her head, not expecting an answer. She regains her composure and repockets the cloth, \"Well, yes, I can see how that would be unnerving. So, is that all? Galdorim is upset that you and,\" she pauses slightly, \"Melethron had a moment together?\" Her brow creases slightly, \"You did just, hold, each other, yes?\"

The color in her cheeks now a bright shade of crimson as Aearwen speaks again, her eyes holding the gaze of Gweneth steadily as she confesses, \"Nay, there was more than just holding. A few kisses did we share before the break of dawn.\" Disbelief clouds her expression, \"I still find it hard to believe that such a thing happened. Melethron and myself had such bitter disagreements and words for one another since my arrival here as envoy. And slowly over the many months of talking, we developed a wonderful, caring friendship, often knowing when the other had need of a hearfelt conversation.\" Sighing deeply, \"Many times has my friendship with Melethron created a conflict with Galdorim.\"

Gweneth blinks as Aearwen confesses. After her words, Gweneth let\'s silence sit for a momment, just starring at Aearwen. Finally a wide grin forms on her lips as she lets out a soft giggle, \"Well, if it makes you feel any better, you just made me feel a bit better about myself.\" She picks up her drink again and sips from it amused for a few minutes then sets it back down, her features becoming more somber, \"Well, I can see the conflict now, and why Galdorim was hesitant to tell me.\"
