(Archive) High Pass Attack
A tale freshly told of the Arnorian
After those miners met so much trouble, more goblins attack the Beornings and Rangers that were on the Pass investigating.
High Pass, Twisting Trail
The sheer peaks of the mountains rise up on all sides around you. The pass seems almost like a maze here, with huge boulders, obscured by thick clouds, making progress more hazardous at every turn.
A descnight needs to be added. This area is under construction. Contact Maz with problems.
Rain pours down from the black night sky, forming numerous small creeks, trailing across the path. The nighttime spring air is humid and clammy.
[Thulion(#28108)]
The night sky is dark and turbulent above, rain drumming on the rocks and cliffs, pooling and streaming down the mountainside, making the going treacherous. A shallow overhand provides bare shelter, but shelter nonetheless: within it, a small campfire has been nursed to a blaze, its glow seeming feeble in the opressive dark of this night. Lighting crashes overhead, and for a bare moment, the rocky landscape is illuminated before again plunging into darkness.
In that moment, too, a tall cloaked form might be seen striding swiftly up the trail towards the campfire, keeping close to the cliff wall.
Cecilia, the token Beorning, is sitting out of the rain, quiet as she snacks on a handful of roasted nuts. The bear, Mobeorn, is off searching for trouble, or troubling signs. The Beorning healer, though, is content to sit and snack. Her bow is close at hand, deeper beneath the overhang to keep the string out of the rain.
[Morcul(#29402)]
The night, and the rain are perfect conditions for creatures of darkness. Days ago a small group of men tried to scale the pass, they were rebuffed by the Goblins of Goblin-town. Thinking that the humans would not try again the majority of the Goblins returned to their lives within the caves. However there are those that know better, either by their greed, or their need to prove themselves strong orc warriors. So a small collection of Uruk and Uruk-Hai have strung themselves across the pass up above the humans, blocking the way. A few archers perhaps in the rock, a few others with sword or hammer lingering near the trail.
When the lightning flashes a snarling half grin of a Uruk-Hai is visible. Once he was a powerful warlord, but he was exiled by his clans to the south, and now he is a scvanager in the mountains, not accepted by the Morians or the Goblins. So he has come here, to try his hand at hunting men, hoping to gain some bit of prestige among those natives of the mountain, or at least get some food and some loot from their dead corpses. Morcul sits croutched like an ape against the rocks, his armor and weapons covered in rust and mud. He was once known as The Grining Bear, and only that smile remains of his once famous stature.
Around the other orcs make themselves known...
[Morfinion(#26663)]
Although he did not venture over-high, the figure of Morfinion climbs deftly down the rock face towards the flickering campfire. As he lands upon the ground, rain begins to pool in the folds of his heavy traveling cloak and his face is momentarily illuminated by a jagged scar of lightning across the boiling sky.
He shakes his head a moment to let the collected water cascade off his hood, warming himself momentarily near the fire but still keep sea-grey eyes fixed upon the outcroppings and trails above. Finally, he turns his attention to one side and gives Thulion a puzzling glance.
[Knurzk(#31082)]
Another orc\'s grisly form might be seen in the flash of lightning, not far from Morcul. The darkness chiefly picks out Knurzk\'s hideous piercings and yellow teeth. The creature is crouched near the ground, rocking back and forth, grinning and holding scimitar over one shoulder. Knurzk watches.
[Mobeorn(#22365)] A pair of dark eyes shine in the darkness here, as if reflecting what little light comes from the stars and campfire. The eyes stare first to the Beorning healer, and then to the two cloaked men on these heights. Last, the eyes peer through the darkness, picking out the positions of the orcs and enemy here one by one. HIdden in the darkness, waiting, is the huge form of a dark brown bear.
[Gildor(#30044)] Another there a tall form looming from the darkness is again hooded and cloaked hiding his identity as much as can be done. He moves forward along with a few others though fresh in his mind is the ambush, his hand is down at his side where closer inspection the hilt of a sword can be seen. Gildor looks around seeing fairely well still.
Cecilia is completely oblivious to the gathering enemies in the darkness. She\'s tired and weary of the rain, and has considerable trust that Mobeorn isn\'t far and will call the alarm if necessary. The healer pops the roasted nut into her mouth and wipes her hands off on her pantleg, then tugs her gloves back on and picks up her bow to rest it in her lap.
[Thulion(#28108)]
The last several meters between Thulion and the campfire are closed swiftly, his right hand moving to his left hip. He does not meet his kinsman\'s glance, for his gaze is locked upon the rocks beyond him, upon the grinning face revealed there in another flash of lightning. \"Arm yourselves,\" comes his low voice. \"They have found /us/.\" Shaking his damp hood off the back of his head, rain beading on his dark hair, he draws his sword, the blade flickering by the firelight.
Morcul sniffing the air the once Warmaster of all of the Methedrim , and Chieftain of the Bear Clan there, to the south perks his head up. A growl escapes his muzzle. He\'s smelled that wet musk of beorning before. It was years ago, a great worg hunt that brought him to the Carrock down far to the east. Pinned on that great spire of rock he did battle with one of the skinchangers and was knocked into the Anduin. He survived that fall, and a lucky fall it was for certainly the bear would have shown him death that day had he remained to fight it. \"Today is a good day to die.... to day I meet the great bear again.\" He strokes his massive warhammer on his lap, the head of the weapon it forged into a snarling face of a bear. Glancing up he looks into the rocks, a lanky black wolf paces there waiting for a meal. He turns his eyes back to the trail and snarls, \"
[Morfinion(#26663)]
His gaze averted from the rocks when Thulion calls the alarm, Morfinion nevertheless swiftly recognizes the look on the other man\'s face and draws his own blade accordingly. He looks up towards the rocks and murmurs in low tones,
\"Take what shelter you can. I would not put it beyond them to have bows.\"
[<#22365>] A growl now rumbles through the dark mountains, perhaps in answer to the snarls of the orcs. \"
[<#29402>] Morcul stands up as a flash of lightning breaks across the sky and the Uruk-Hai\'s forme is outlined for a second. He is no Goblin, no Morian Uruk, but a true creation of Sharku to the south. Wide shoulders, a snarling mouth of tusks, and encased in iron links. He swings his hammer once and smashes it into the side of the pass shatterin the rock there into a dosen pieces that break and crumble falling down the hill. \"
Stepping out into the middle of the pass \'The Blackhammer of Isengard\', \'the Grinning Bear\' (for a scar on his face curls his upper lip in a perpetual half smile), the Warmaster flexes his shoulder and tips his head back.
\'ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUAG!\'
His warcry shakes the pass, turning the blood of weak men cold, and bosltering the morale of any who would stand with him. He screams, for all to be heard, \'I am Morcul the Blackhammer! Tonight this pass belongs to me! Bring me your gold, your wine, and your woman, and I will let you pass! Or send up the filthy walking carpet, and let us end what was started years ago!\' He swigs his shield into place, and begins to bang his hammer on it.
Boom. Boom. Boom
[Knurzk(#31082)]
As if Thulion\'s warning were meant for orcs instead of men, Knurzk immediately raises from his crouch and begins to pace quietly toward the campfire. His form is briefly reveals as the lightning flashes.
Boom. Boom. Boom.
More orcs are taking up the clash of weapon on shield, but not this one, not Knurzk. The dark and gnarled form is still quietly approaching, just beyond the light now.
Cecilia looks up nervously when Thulion speaks of danger. She climbs out from beneath the overhang, standing up and reaching for an arrow. The Beorning begins to search through the darkness when the low growl rumbles through the air. Instead of stiffening as some might, the girl draws her brows together, listening intently.
\"There are goblins along the rocks, and archers..\" She says quietly after the rumbling ceases. Cecilia knocks the arrow to the bowstring as her eyes adjust to the darkness away from the light of the fire. Suddenly Morcul yells his battlecry and the Beorning healer shivers. Still, she lifts bow to point at nearest target, the approaching Knurzk.
[Combat(#13388)->Cecilia]
You fire off an arrow at Knurzk...
Your arrow hits Knurzk, badly wounding him!
[Morcul(#29402)] Pacing in the rocks is a lanky black wolf, for years it has been Morcul\'s only companion, and tonight it can smell blood, the blood of its master, and the blood of men. He prowls the hard to reach flank of the pass, and slips quietly down and around on Morcul\'s right flank, any would be attacks that try and outflank the Grinning Bear will have to get past it first.
Gildor seems to be waiting for this as he approaches his hand grips the sword wielding it into the night. He reaches back stopping his walk as he attach\'s the shield to his arm before moving again towards the foes
[Mobeorn(#22365)] The bear has seen too much combat, especially of late, to be taunted into a hasty attack. Still, it continues its steady climb, circling around slightly, so that when Morcul howls, suddenly the bear breaks into a run, a full ton of weight the force behind its slashing attack.
Mobeorn attacks Morcul with his Beijabar Fists, but he misses by an arm\'s length.
[Morfinion(#26663)]
And when all hell breaks loose, Morfinion turns his glance up towards the rocks and hears the battle cry ring across the ancient stones. But no terror or dread grips him just yet, for often has he heard the war-calls of the orcs though the figure lit by the flash of lightning is no goblin that this Ranger is familiar with.
All the same, he approaches the strung-out vanguard of the enemy with sword drawn and stout shield raised. He looks over its rounded top with a careful, measuring gaze as he seeks out his foe for this round of bloodshed.
[Thulion(#28108)]
Thulion\'s eye flickers to the large shape of the bear, then catch on something else moving low to the ground, around the massive form of Morcul. \"That bear is going for the Uruk,\" he mutters with some amount of surprise, but it passes quickly and focusing upon the shadow of the other creature, he sets his jaw and surges into the fray. His blade flashes in his hands, raised high and then brought in a downward sweep against the stealthy wolf.
Thulion attacks Wolf Pack Alpha with his Longsword and badly wounds him!
[Morcul(#29402)]
Morcul is no fool, he may know death is coming, but he won\'t meet it that east. Right infront of him he has a small hole dug, just large enough for a few feet (or one bear foot) to fall into. As Mobeorn charges up the hill at him, the bear hits that small hole, and it throws his attack off, just enough. Ducking back with a full smile on his face now the soaking wet Uruk-Hai sweeps his hammer over his head and brings it around to catch the bear on the head or neck with his hammer. Lightning flashes and the yellow eyes of Morcul light up.
Morcul attacks Mobeorn with his War Hammer, but he misses by a long shot.
[Knurzk(#31082)]
An arrow streaks from the campfire, cursed light! And so close, too, it manages to pierce beneath Knurzk\'s arm and quiver there for a moment, slowling the goblin only briefly before he knocks it free.
He starts loping toward the archer, Cecilia, and after three steps the pain hits. Knurzk bellows his pain, peirced and scarred face contorted, and it turns to fury as he strikes at the woman!
Knurzk attacks you with his Scimitar!...
...and he hits! Ouch!
ARB: You\'ve been injured for 8 hp\'s by Knurzk\'s attack...
...you have 73 left. Please RP this injury accordingly.
Aaargh! Your training and strength fail you as Knurzk\'s attack knocks the bow from your hand!
[Morcul(#29402)]
At the same time that Morcul attacks the wolf to his flank is attacked. The wolf hasn\'t eaten in some time, and its slower than one might expect because of it. Howling out the beast is hit on the shanks with the sword of Thulion staggering as blood sprays into the rainy night. With a powerful snap of its jaws the wolf attempts a counter bit.
[Mobeorn(#22365)] Briefly, the bear stumbles in the hole, long enough for the orc to be out of reach of its attack. But in tripping, the bear also falls low to the ground, so that the orc\'s hammer swishes silently over the bear\'s head. Staying low, the bear lunges forward, its front claws seeking to trip Morcul or slash at the flesh of his legs.
Mobeorn attacks Morcul with his Beijabar Fists, but he misses by an arm\'s length.
Cecilia actually looks surprised when the arrow sinks into the target. The healer grins in delight, then her pale eyes widen in sudden fright as the goblin howls in fury and charges at her. The scimitar cuts at her arm and she crings back, feeling the impact of the blade on her arm greave, dropping the bow as it jars her.
For a moment the girl has a look of sheer panic on her face, then Mobeorn\'s voice cuts through her thoughts and she reaches to her belt and draws a dagger, frantically stabbing it at the orc\'s face.
COMBAT - Wielded: Silver Dagger
You attack Knurzk with your Dagger...
[Combat(#13388)->Cecilia]
Knurzk dodges your attack.
Morcul jumps up onto a flat boulder just to the right. He glance at his wolf companion but can\'t help him, not with the bear there. Up on the rock he\'s safe from the attack, the claws rake the stone slicing through it like a knife through a delicous honey cake. The Uruk-Hai throws himself from the boulder into the air and slams his hamemr down at the flank of his old clan\'s totem. \"ARRRRRGH!\" The hammer howls through the night air.
Morcul attacks Mobeorn with his War Hammer, but he misses by a handspan.
[Mobeorn(#22365)] The bear never takes its eyes off of Morcul, and as the orc jumps down to attack, the bear rushes forward, so that the hammer breezes past the bear\'s rump. Twisting, the bear violently hacks at the orc\'s back.
Mobeorn attacks Morcul with his Beijabar Fists, but Morcul parries the attack with his War Hammer!
[Knurzk(#31082)]
\"You\'ll pay for what ye done!\" Knurzk\'s voice is a curious nasal and hissing at the same time. He spits at Cecilia as he advances upon her, the wicked curve of his blade going for the girl\'s throat.
Knurzk attacks you with his Scimitar!...
...and he hits! Ouch!
ARB: You\'ve been injured for 8 hp\'s by Knurzk\'s attack...
...you have 65 left. Please RP this injury accordingly.
[Morcul(#29402)]
The orcsh thick chain armor takes the raking claws and while a few links break and fly, he staggers forward from the force. He finds himself now level with the bear and smiles, \"I need a new cloak...you will do nicely.\" He grabs his hammer tightly and swings wildly, leaving himself exposed, but the attack is so forceful and so frenzies it could hardly miss.
Morcul furiously attacks Mobeorn with his War Hammer and mildly wounds him!
[Morfinion(#26663)]
Blade in in hand, the well-maintained steel catches a flash of lightning as Morfinion finally fixes his stare upon one of the ravaging orcs. The bow knocked from Cecilia\'s hand, Morfinion is already approaching Knurzk before the dagger can be brought to bear.
As the scimitar and dagger sing through the air in concert, the Ranger lunges forward into a half-crouched stance - an effort to draw the stinging blade across the space behind the uruk\'s knee.
Morfinion attacks Knurzk with his Longsword, but Knurzk parries the attack with his shield!
[Thulion(#28108)]
A sharp breath, hissed through clenched teeth, escapes Thulion as the wolf\'s jaws clamp upon his calf, though the thick leather of his boots protects him somewhat from the piercing teeth. Twisting, he brings his blade up and outwards, aiming to slice the creature\'s neck, or at least to repel it from its grip upon him.
Cecilia stifles a scream as Knurzk presses an attack, stumbling back, but cries in pain when the scimitar flashes in and cuts her shoulder, frighteningly close to her vulnerable neck. She\'s just opening her mouth to yell for help when Morfinion is there, and she reaches down to snatch up her bow while the ranger engages the orc, retreating back.
[Combat(#13388)->Cecilia]
You forego your chance to attack.
You pick up Longbow.
[Combat(#13388)->Cecilia] Unwielded: Silver Dagger
COMBAT - Wielded: Longbow
[Mobeorn(#22365)] The orc\'s blade skims across the tough bear flesh, barely drawing blood. Infuriated that the orc was able to hit at all, the tries to smash its heavy paws into the orc\'s face or to use its claws to rake at the orc\'s exposed skin.
Mobeorn furiously attacks Morcul with his Beijabar Fists and moderately wounds him!
Thulion attacks Wolf Pack Alpha with his Longsword and severely wounds him!
[Morcul(#29402)]
Mocrul staggers back as the claws of the bear reach up and palm strikes him right in the face. The Uruk-Hai was actuallty in too close for the claws to come into play, the plam of the bear\'s massive paws connecting early. Staggering back with a now broken and bloody nose the once Chieftain of the Bear slips in the mud and the rain and the pain in his eyes. Bleeding and stunned, he shakes his head, rain spraying everyplace in the night air as lightning cracks overhead. He spits out a broken tooth, and drinks in his own blood pouring from his nose. Then he leaps forward and slams the snarling bear head of his hammer at the knee of the Beijabar.
His wolf howls again, struck while mawing on the leg of his target. The animal canters around the man, bleeding badly, but still with fight in it, the wolf rakes once with a paw.
Morcul furiously attacks Mobeorn with his War Hammer and badly wounds him!
[Knurzk(#31082)]
How under Flame does Knurzk see Morfinion\'s approach? But somehow, it seems as if the goblin does, for his shield falls back behind him, blocking the man\'s approach.
\"BACK, TARK!\" Knurzk snarls at Morfinion. He hops toward Cecilia, black blood pouring down his side, and lays the filthy blade of his wobbling scimitar upon the girl\'s neck. \"Back! Back or you\'ll see the inside of her throat! Back away NOW!\"
Knurzk stands there a moment, blade balanced on Cecilia\'s throat, shield out to Morfinion, shining wet from the rain. Firelight reflects off of his dark skin.
Cecilia is just rising again, stuffing the dagger back into the sheath when the goblin impossibly is -right there-. She stops from reaching for an arrow and stares at the snarling creature, her eyes impossibly wide. The Beorning healer is frozen.
[Mobeorn(#22365)] There\'s a definite \'crunch\' noise as the hammer connects with a leg of the bear, the animal roaring in sudden pain but also slashing out with fist and claw once more, as if trying to break the orc\'s neck. Still, the bear is hobbled by this attack.
Mobeorn furiously attacks Morcul with his Beijabar Fists and severely wounds him!
[Morfinion(#26663)]
Morfinion does not beg for the woman\'s life nor lower his sword, standing there with the blade drawn and held aloft. His expression holds no real emotion in it, his mouth a grim line which alters only to ask a question:
\"And if you do? You\'ll have naught with which to barter and you shall find yourself a head shorter.\"
All the same the Ranger\'s eyes dart from Cecilia to Knurzk, aiming to uncover some hitherto unseen approach for attack.
[Morcul(#29402)]
*Crunch* *Slurp* *Splat*
Morcul is hit so hard not only is his collar bone broken but so is his shield that he tried to block with. He is uncerimonsiously lifted up into the air and thrown ten feet into the side of the rocky pass where he strikes the wall with a sicken crunch. His body goes limp, doubled over itself from the insanely powerful blow (59!). The Uruk-Hai is dead, he lays their limp in the darkness as mud from above is washed down over his body by the rain.
Lightning flashes on his broken form. The wolf howls, and battle rages and the darkness of the night hangs heavy on the pass.
Lightning flahses again and Morcul\'s body isn\'t there!
Another flash, and the Warmaster stands above the trail, his shield arm hanging limp, only pieces of it dangle from his arm now. In his other his The Blackhammer of the Bear Clan of Methedras. \"I\'m not so easy to kill.\" Rolling his head he snarls a mostly toothless grin now and motions the bear up the pass. (Pass)
[Knurzk(#31082)]
\"Oh, more terrible beasts than you have tried, tark, and I wager you\'ll fail, too.\" Knurzk\'s voice is oddly whining. He shuffles toward Cecilia. A quick glance back, and he suddenly lowers his blade to slice across her chest.
Knurzk looks immediately back at Morfinion and screeches, \"Back!\"
Knurzk attacks you with his Scimitar!...
...and he hits! Ouch!
ARB: You\'ve been injured for 13 hp\'s by Knurzk\'s attack...
...you have 52 left. Please RP this injury accordingly.
Whew! Knurzk\'s attack almost knocks the bow from your hand...
[Mobeorn(#22365)] Though it is limping, the bear\'s eyes gleam in the night with an intensity of hatred that gives it a rush of adrenaline: Up the pass it runs, limping with an injured knee, but heading to either kill the Warmaster or be killed. An unearthly roar echos through the mountain pass, so that loud that it might leave the ears ringing. And then the bear lunges again, a ton of fur, flesh, claws and teeth lookign to pull Morcul down.
Mobeorn furiously attacks Morcul with his Beijabar Fists and terribly wounds him!
[Thulion(#28108)]
The tip of his sword lowered towards the creature, Thulion follows the wolf with calculating gaze as it circles him. He lunges forward then even as the wolf swipes with a claw. He lifts the hilt, angling it to try and deflect the blow, but only partially manages so, another pained hiss escaping the man as the claws rake his forearm. His eyes flashing as lighting splinters the sky once more, he plunges his sword downward, thrusting it at the wolf\'s chest.
Thulion attacks Wolf Pack Alpha with his Longsword and severely wounds him!
[Morfinion(#26663)]
The time for parlay passes swiftly, and forward Morfinion lunges with sword in hand. He swings it heavily through the air, aiming for the fell Knurzk\'s neck with a cry of effort as he puts much of his strength behind it.
Morfinion attacks Knurzk with his Longsword, but Knurzk parries the attack with his shield!
Cecilia tries to back away from Knurzk when he focuses on Morfinion, but her scramble back smacks her right into wet rocks and she has nowhere to flee. The orc\'s scimitar cuts through her armor and she gives a very feminine cry of pain. \"
[Combat(#13388)->Cecilia] Unwielded: Longbow
You attack Knurzk with your Bare Hands...
[Combat(#13388)->Cecilia]
Knurzk dodges your attack.
[Morcul(#29402)]
The huge brown bear that is Mobeorn runs, hobbles is a better term, up the pass at Morcul who stands there blocking the way. All around him Uruk and Goblin are starting to flee, the cowardly creatures would be dead three times over now against the Beorning and to them living is the top on their list. Morcul stands like a boulder on the mountain and the bear crashes into him. With claws and maw it grabs hold of the Uruk-Hai and pulls him down into the mud and muck of the rain washed mountain pass. His chest is rent open, and his ribs broken by the sheer weight of the beast. His hammer falls from his grip, trapped like his is, pinned under the Bear. A hand draws a long wicked knife and the once Chieftain slices up at the face of the Beijabar, \"Something to remember me by!\" The blade slice up the left side of Mobeorn\'s face, cutting at his lips, twisting and tugging on the flesh so as to give the Skinchanger the same brutal scar that Morcul bares on his own face!
Morcul furiously attacks Mobeorn with his War Hammer and moderately wounds him!
[Morcul(#29402)]
The black wolf is hit again, and unlike its master it tries to flee. Turning the beast moves, as quickly as it can back toward the caves and rocks of the mountain. It leaves itself wide open for the man to strike it one final time before it might, if luck is with it, escape into the mountains.
[Mobeorn(#22365)] Blood oozes as the knife blade slashes across the bear\'s face, but the animal wriggles quickly enough so that the cut is not deep and the scar may not be precisely what the orc had in mind. Using its full weight, the bear presses a gigantic paw against the orc\'s windpipe, trying to crush it, withstanding another slash of the orc\'s knife if he has to.
Morcul collapses to the ground, defeated by Mobeorn!
[Combat(#13388)] Morcul\'s weapon \"Ancestral War Hammer of the Bear Clan\" falls to the ground...
[Knurzk(#31082)]
The shield flies up and clangs against Morfinion\'s blade. \"Back,\" Knurzk growls, \"Back.\" The beast\'s voice is curiously wet and gurgling for a moment. He creeps closer to Cecilia as she flails, the hideously foul-smelling bulk of him nearly pushing up on her.
\"She screams so pretty,\" Knurzk tells Morfinion, his sharp yellow smile spreading in a distorted, mad grin.
[Morcul(#29402)] *Snap*
Morcul\'s neck is crushed beneath the weight of the huge bear. His legs twitch out from under the beast and then he goes still. The last moments of the Grinning Bear of Isengard are the thoughts that maybe he passed on his title and his legacy, even if it was to a foe, a worthy foe. His Blackhammer slides slowly down the trail being washed up in the mud and the rain...
[Mobeorn(#22365)] Perhaps the bear doesn\'t trust to this particular orc\'s death, for it holds its paws to the thing\'s windpipe much longer than usual, blood from its face dripping down slowly onto th ecreature. Once it is satisfied the orc is dead, the bear flings the body across the mountain, throwing it hard to smash it against the rocks. Then it turns, staggering a bit from its wounds, this fight having drained much out of it. The screams in Eothrik finally register in its mind, and it searches the mountain, starting to hobble down toward where Cecilia has been taken, but the bear is slow.
[Thulion(#28108)]
Fortune is with the wolf today. Thulion takes a lunging step after the it, as if to seek to end it, just as the paniced cry of the woman pierces the night. His gaze snaps around to the campfire, leaving the maimed creature to flee to what safety these mountains can afford it. Taking in the scene there, the Ranger quickly sheathes his sword and slips the bow from his back, and notching an arrow, taking aim at the orc, he hesitates for half a breath before his longbow gives a loud twang, speeding the arrow away.
(The next part I am leaving in because I think it really illustrates the scene better..)
You +give an Arrow to Thulion.
Thulion launches an arrow...
Ow! You\'ve been injured for 7 hp\'s by the bowshot.
ARB: Please RP this injury accordingly.
[Morfinion(#26663)]
Morfinion has had his fill of the orc\'s attempt to bargain or threaten its way out of danger, and so he scowls and lunges forward yet again with shield held up before him. His attack is a superficial one that seeks to sting Knurzk\'s weapon-arm more than cause severe harm, the shield held at the fore in an effort to push the beast away from his hostage.
Morfinion attacks Knurzk with his Longsword and lightly wounds him!
[Knurzk(#31082)]
\"Augh! Gna!\" Knurzk shakes his hand as Morfinion stings him. His shield is still held up toward the man\'s but he pulls back a little to slap his own blade blindly toward Cecilia\'s face. His eyes are steady on Morfinion\'s as he does this.
Knurzk attacks you with his Scimitar!...
...and he hits! Ouch!
ARB: You\'ve been injured for 13 hp\'s by Knurzk\'s attack...

The foul goblin is pressing up against her and the Beorning healer is cringing back, her pretty face twisted in horror. \"
She\'s squeaking in pain now, and then the flat of the scimitar smacks into her temple and her head slams back into the hard stone. Cecilia crumples to the ground, unconscious.
[Morfinion(#26663)]
Morfinion presses his attack still, attempting to force Knurzk away from Cecilia in an effort to save her /further/ lacerations. He lunges forward with the sword, this time the attack seems more eager to spill blood - the point of the blade plunging towards the orc\'s gut.
He scowls with some empathy at the healer\'s predicament but there is no time to stop and see if she is alright, instead he attempts to either slay the beast or drive it off.
Morfinion attacks Knurzk with his Longsword, but Knurzk parries the attack with his Scimitar!
Gildor has been forced back attacking the side guards keeping there retreat open to them should they need it. He finally makes his way up towards the battle. His sword gleaming almost all it\'s own in the light. He comes upon the battle swiping at the orc being assailed.
[Thulion(#28108)]
Thulion flinches visibly as his arrow goes astray, cursing under his breath, but time is short. Slinging the offending longbow upon his back once more, his longsword flashes forth once more and he runs back down the trail toward the campfire.
[Knurzk(#31082)]
Suddenly there is a lack of a warm body beside Knurzk. He turns and fully faces Morfinion, just in time to catch the man\'s blade on his scimitar. \"Have your woman, tark,\" the beast curses at him. \"Feast on her sweet flesh, for she is dead!\" he kicks at Cecilia\'s limp body-- it really is hard to see in the dark rain if she breathes-- and then turns again, running in a hunched lope.
[Combat(#13388)]
Knurzk dodges aside Morfinion, and manages to escape!
Knurzk vanishes around a giant boulder.
[Morcul(#29402)]
For the time being the pass is clear, the last resistance flees as Knurzk slips into the shadows. There are dead and wounded, and plenty of things to worry about, but right now the goblins are missing, and the way west is clear. For long, who knows...
Cecilia lays on the ground, limp, unmoving.. save for when the orc kicks her. There\'s a dark spot on the back of her head, her pale hair stained by blood from where her skull hit the rock, but the rest of her clothes are too dark to see the extent of her injuries at a glance.
[<#22365>] The bear finally limps its way down toward Cecilia, too late to be of any use. It sniffs the air, growling, \"
[Morfinion(#26663)]
The orc disappearing behind the boulder allows Morfinion a chance to lower his sword and turn towards Cecilia. But no healer is he, so all he can do is crouch by the unconscious woman and shakes his head.
He glances up in time to watch the great bear go, but returns anon his attentions to the wounded woman. He checks to see if she is indeed dead.
Cecilia is not dead. She breathes still. A raindrop splatters on her pale, freckled cheek.
[Thulion(#28108)]
The younger Ranger, too, is too late running back to the campfire to lend his blade. Thulion\'s gaze does not follow the fleeing orc, though intent instead as it is upon the battered woman. At the bear\'s rumblings he does look up though, in time to catch the meaningful glance, but his expression does not show any comprehension. He glances questioningly between the other Ranger and the Elf, then sliding his sword away, asks his kinsman in a grave voice, \"Does she live? I shall run and find one of our healers, if so,\" concern clear in his words as he draws beside his kinsman.
[Mobeorn(#22365)] The bear doesn\'t wander off completely--it pauses a few steps away, waiting patiently--and it won\'t move from that spot until the rangers and elves decide to, as well, with the Beorning woman. Its eyes watch what is happening, looking repeatedly toward Cecilia, the bear\'s own wounds still bleeding.
[Morfinion(#26663)]
\"She lives,\" Morfinion says in a grim tone, as though it may be little consolation given all the scars Cecilia will likely bear, \"Although not for lack of effort on the orc\'s part. Healers. Yes.\"
[Thulion(#28108)]
With a nod to Morfinion, and a brief, if wary, glance at the bear, Thulion dashes away back down the trail, vanishing into the the murky curtain of rain.
