Bundazanul Huskarl in Zinbar Halls
A tale freshly told of the Erebor
Ranol goes to Zinbar to visit the tombs and runs into opposition.
Why would the huskarl of Bundazanul be making his way into Zinbar\'s halls? He\'s unarmed and still sporting his left arm in a cast beneath the blue cloak he wears. Most interestingly is that his steps are not taking him in the direction of Thane Ovor\'s chambers, which is where one might expect Ranol to be headed. Instead he seems to have some other destination in mind.
[Ovor(#20753)] The sight of a Bundazanul in the Zinbar clan hall soom comes to the attention of those of power within the Clan. Thus, it is of little surprise that soon one of the Huskarls of the Thane approaches Ranol but not just one of the lower huskarls, but their Captain: Farkin Stoneheart. Dressed in the red and black of his Clan, the Champion of Zinbar, his long-bearded axe upon his back and a hand resting lightly upon his belt near his knife, makes his way straight towards the Huskarl of Bundazanul.
\"What is it you seek here, Bundazanul?\" Even though Farkin\'s voice is emotionless, his stress upon the word of \'Bundazanul\' would almost suggest strong distrust. \"I would think there would be little of interest here to... one of your nature.\"
Ranol doesn\'t stop moving when Farkin calls out to him, his stride measured by his recovery, but purposeful. The Bundazanul does look towards the Zinbar captain though, sweeping his cloak back with his right hand to show that he\'s unarmed.
[Ovor(#20753)] \"That does not answer the question. Give an answer, or you go no further Bundazanul. Do /not/ test me upon this.\" Farkin\'s eyes remain upon Ranol, not even moving down at the sweeping of the cloak back. \"Your answer. Now.\"
Ranol draws to a stop when Farkin addresses him in that demanding fashion. There is a dark, troubled expression on his face that he tries to hide when he speaks in low, soft tone. \"I only wish to visit my grandfather, Master Farkin.\" He doesn\'t bow or show any other visual signs of acknowledgement, not wishing to press his breach of Braldor\'s orders any further.
[Ovor(#20753)] \"Your grandfather is burried here?\" An eyebrow is arched briefly by the Huskarl Captain before he shrugs after a moment. \"Wait here. I shall see if the Thane is in the mood to allow your visit. Do not move.\" With that, Farkin turns, cape fluttering as he does so, walking towards the Thane\'s chambers.
Ranol nods once to confirm the question, then narrows his gaze when Farkin insists on seeking -permission-.. as if the dead are at risk by his presence. Obviously the young huskarl is frustrated, but says nothing further and moves to stand against a nearby wall, waiting.
[Ovor(#20753)] Minutes pass before the Champion of Zinbar returns, a slight scowl upon his face. \"The Thane has... decided to allow you your visit I am to observe, to see that you do not do anything... untoward. It would not be good for you to proceed unescorted and then have something... bad happen.\" With that, Farkin walks towards the arch that leads to the Zinbar crypts.
Ranol waits patiently, ignoring everyone and everything else around him. He doesn\'t care if people stare, doesn\'t even seem to notice. When Farkin returns he looks at the dwarf, blue eyes watching the captain intently. As the conditions are laid out, at first Ranol is unconcerned. When it\'s implied that they fear he might act poorly, in a -tomb- of all places, the Bundazanul gives Farkin an incredulous look. His mouth opens as if to speak but he only sighs in an offended fashion and begins walking again.
[Ovor(#20753)] The Champion of Zinbar walks in silence towards the crypts of Zinbar, an occasional glance sent over his shoulder to ensure the Bundazanul is still there. Once they reach the crypts, he pauses within the door, turning to face Ranol.
\"Lead on. I know not your grandfather\'s name, nor his place here.\"
Ranol has no plans to slip off and steal away Zinbar babies, or egg the doors of houses. Once down into the crypts he spares the briefest glance for Farkin and begins navigating the dim tunnels. His grandfather, Kurn, is only recently in his grave. The dwarf\'s tomb reads the years 2777 to 3042, and is shared by his wife, Pella that passed in the year 3028.
When they reach the resting place of his deceased relatives, Ranol turns to look at Farkin again. \"I would appreciate some privacy.\"
[Ovor(#20753)] The Captain of Huskarls follows the Bundazanul, eyes occasionally flicking around or a head bowed as a tomb is passed. A brief glance is afforded the tomb of Kurn before Farkin\'s eyes flick to Ranol. After a few moments, he nods, and steps a few rows back, eyes resting mostly upon the archway into the Thingstead.
Ranol inclines his head, his gaze softening as Farkin spares him further frustration. He hadn\'t planned on paying his respects under the pressure of a personal guard, but the Bundazanul still spends near half in hour paying his silent visit. When he\'s ready to leave he looks no less stressed, dark shadows beneath his eyes that suggest restless nights. \"Thank you.\" He says quietly as he approaches the huskarl.
[Ovor(#20753)] The Champion of Zinbar nods his head slightly to the Bundazanul. \"Our clans may be at a... disagreement, but no Thane would deny another Dwarf the chance to pay his respects to his ancestors, even if their clans be at the height of war. Which we currently have avoided so far.\" A brief, emotionless smile from Farkin before he begins to walk towards the arch to the Thingstead.
\"I will tell my mother. She hasn\'t come for fear of a scene.\" Ranol says, his words sad now. The talk of war gets a sidelong glance, but the Bundazanul speaks not on any matter beyond what is directly related to his business here. He follows Farkin, his stride less purposeful now, but still deliberate.
[Ovor(#20753)] Farkin nods his head slightly, glancing briefly to the Bundazanul Huskarl. \"I shall inform the Thane to expect her visit at some point. She will be assigned a guard, though they shall be discrete for her own protection as much to keep the minds of our clandwarves untroubled.\" A soft shrug comes from the Huskarl Captain as he strides out into the Thingstead.
Ranol nods as well, and is quiet for the rest of the walk. He has much on his mind and it\'s clear in the troubled expression on his face. When they are at the archway to the Great Hall of Thrain the Second the Bundazanul huskarl heads not for his own clan tunnels, but instead towards the stairs that lead up, away from the busy living areas of Erebor.
