The Valley Shore
You stand on the valley shore of the river. The river itself flows noisily beneath the bridge. On the opposite side of the river you can see the steep forested slopes, with a
trail winding up and out of the valley. To your west is a birchwood, looking quite wholesome and inviting. Behind the as yet leafless, but budding, trees, sheer cliffs close in
until there is nothing but an impassable gorge. North of here are some pleasant, open meadows. A trail leads east and up a steep bank towards the Last Homely House.
The clear sky above is devoid of clouds, and the sun spills down upon the earth.

How did late March arrive so quickly? The mid morning air is damp and fresh, especially this close to the river. The air is fragrant with the scent of blooming trees and early flowers.
A man walks quietly, alone, from the direction of the birchwood. His steps are leisurely and his hands rest with his thumbs hooked into the front of the belt that binds his loose velvet tunic. Although few in the valley know this man, his strangely tattooed face and hands are distinct to those who have seen him before - or heard rumors of his return recently.
Seemingly out merely for a stretch of his legs, the Dunadan walks over towards the shore of the river, his pale eyes skimming over the water and his own thoughts elsewhere.
[Elladan(#27059)] From the bridge comes Elladan, idly walking without any haste. His usual attire of the road has recently been changed to that of a more refined taste. Upon reaching the shore, he draws close to the tattooed man. \"Well met, Rhifaroth,\" he calls out in the elven tongue. \"I heard news of your return but not much yet of your latest exploits.\"
l Elladan
The best of twilight and day is summed up in the tall figure before you. Fairer than the average man, his grey eyes and dark hair still recall the men of Numenor. His face is more softly drawn, however, than any human\'s, and he seems neither young nor old, timeless and yet more real than dream.
He is clad in a tunic of soft dove grey, clasped at his waist with a belt of silver. Dark breeches cover his legs, and on his feet are supple leather boots. His voice is bright and musical, though his posture of easy assurance speaks more clearly: here is one of the noble among both the first and second born children of Arda.
[Rhifaroth(#27282)]
Movement across the bridge catches the man\'s eye as he was looking over the river. Pausing, then Dunadan waits when he sees a familiar figure coming towards him and hear\'s Elladan\'s voice. A hint of a smile, and Rhifaroth turns to join the other.
\"Mae govannen, indeed Herion.\" he greets in return in his usual baritone quietly, \"Not much to say in ... exploit.\" Humor perhaps lights the man\'s eyes, \"Road was quiet.\"
[Elladan(#27059)] \"A rarity these days,\" muses the son of Elrond. \"But what news is there from the Breelands, if I may ask? Some of the Imladhrim went to visit the Grey Havens and they must have come along the same road as you.\"
[Rhifaroth(#27282)]
Standing relaxed and at his ease, the man nods, \"Aye, I encountered Mirodhel and Sidhel with another in Combe, just outside of Bree. They seemed well, interested in a Dwarf I was with in company.\"
A thoughtful pause as Rhifaroth\'s own gaze slips over the valley that rises up from the river, towards Hir Elrond\'s house and the meadows to the north, \"Been some trouble among the dwarves in Bree but I think that\'s cleared up now. A young woman there I\'ve been keeping an eye on that I believe is from the far east, too.\" a slight frown before he looks back to the elf, \"Dwarves are due to come east any time now and try to start work on the Last Bridge... trolls permitting.\"

Standing about 6\'4\", this man is fairly broad in chest and shoulders but is lean overall. He is now washed up with more suitable attire. Normally windblown, loose black hair is now trimmed and tamed. Silvery grey eyes have faint creases around them from much squinting into distances. Across his cheekbones and down the sides of this man\'s throat are thin, faded blue-black line and dot tattoos that resemble writing. A relatively new, deep scar angles across his face from scalp to right jaw. Wide of jaw and well formed in feature, one might consider the man ruggedly handsome if they could get past the scar and odd, narrow pattern of tattooing over his skin.
Gone are the worn, soiled clothes as well as his weapons. A muted blue tunic of velvet, belted at the waist and trimmed with silver embroidery now garbs him with a long sleeved white shirt beneath. While his wrists and arms are covered by the sleeves and cuffs of the shirt, more of the faded tattoo markings are visible on the backs of the man\'s calloused hands. Dark blue-grey pants are tucked into calf high, soft black leather boots.
Elladan frowns at this news. \"A woman from the far east say you? Have you knowledge from where exactly she hails? The Dalelanders are seldom seen in Eriador and even the Beornings would rarely go beyond the Bruinen. This is remarkable and unsettling if you ask me.\"
[Rhifaroth(#27282)]
Now refocused upon Elladan, Rhifaroth frowns faintly, \"I think so, but I don\'t know. Said her mother was of Bree, traveled with her father all over... but she\'s been far into the east, at least.\" a hand rises to touch his own face, \"She couldn\'t read the marks upon my skin, but she reacted to them, knew what they were. And as the Narakshi do not leave their lands, she must have been out that far. They have no written language at all aside from the marks they put upon their bodies.\" Then a shrug, \"But there are many kinds of Variags. Other tribes might use .. simular writing. I do not know.\"
Rehooking his thumb into his belt, the Dunadan adds, \"She did get entangled with some bad folk, she said using her sisters as leverage to make her do things. She had a part in the kidnapping of a dwarf who babbled too loudly about treasure they are carrying. I warned them -not- to mention it, but...\" Obviously his advice was ignored.
\"I managed to save the girl\'s life, twice, and got her to pledge to help me get to those folk who were using her. I got them, all but one a dwarf got to first, and another that got away. If there are more though, I think they\'ll come back and kill her if they can. I need to get back quickly. Keep an eye on her.\"
Rhifaroth adds quietly, \"If she does have ties to people in the east, some may come through - that your folk should watch out for.\"
[Elladan(#27059)] A sigh escapes Elladan\'s throat. \"I reckon the quite days in the valley are over once again for me and my brother. Such news cannot be ignored and if the girl truly has ties to the Easterlings then we must find her and her masters in the Breelands. What of this dwarf though, did you hear why they were interested in holding him? Was it just for his wealth or might there be other reasons?\"
[Rhifaroth(#27282)]
A hand is raised to scratch at the back of his neck and a black brow arched at the news that Herion even has a brother, \"Just for information about the treasure as far as I can tell - no other interest. They questioned Thari about it, tortured him. Broke his arm, leg, ribs... but he wouldn\'t tell them. If they asked about anything else, he would not tell me.\"
\"As for her masters... at least locally, I already took care of that. Woman by the name of Tamara. Cordelia\'s the girl\'s name. Don\'t know if the names might be helpful to track origins, but I assume your folk have your resources.\" A soft smile there, \"Cordy agreed to take me to her contact when it became apparent that they had decided to dispose of her. I drug this Tamara to the Breejail but she either died of her injuries, or someone got to her - before we could question her.\"
[Elladan(#27059)] \"Murder and dark plotting in Bree,\" mutters the half-elf. \"Such has been unheard of for quite a long time! Truly, your tale is alerting and we will be the more wary of any who come from the east now. I shall seek the counsel of our wise and then my brother and I will likely trek westward to spot that woman, Cordelia. Say, where have you last seen her?\"
[Rhifaroth(#27282)]
Rhifaroth shifts his weight, easing his weaker, still faintly lame left leg, \"I moved her to Archet to stay with some folk there who agreed to keep an eye on the girl while I was away. This Cordelia, she\'s just a child. 18 years old maybe. Badly used, scars all over her back from whipping or caning - I could feel them through her shirt when I pushed her into a room to speak to this Thari, when she voluntarily confessed her part in it. Scared kid. Worked at the Pony in Bree.\"
A flicker of his own grey eyes, watching Herion, \"I\'ll be heading back west with my family as soon as arrangements are completed. When I get back, I\'ll track her back down if she\'s not still in Archet.\"
[Elladan(#27059)] A shadow flickers across the grey eyes of Elladan. \"The Dark Lord\'s foul play has come further west once more than I had thought of. What you have told me I will now relate to my father and to one named Erestor. They would know what to do now apart from keeping an eye on that child. Elbereth, she reminds me much of another girl from the east we saved from the clutches of the Shadow, years ago.\" He shakes his head with sadness and turns to continue his path towards the house.
[Rhifaroth(#27282)]
Herion mentioning his father in a context of respect as he does makes Rhifaroth\'s own gaze flicker over the other as Elladan turns away. He and Arwen have some ... simularities in basic coloring and feature? The Dunadan keeps his thoughts to himself. It\'s none of his business anyway.
A nod of his head as Herion turns to depart, \"Didn\'t know you\'d be so interested. Glad to help.\" It\'s an honest comment. The tattooed man keeps his place, watching the other leave. Rhifaroth turns back to his walking along the river, his own thoughts returning to the problems of getting his family west, safely.
