Logfile from Elendor.

Center of Bowman Street

To the east, the sturdy wooden deck Esgaroth is built on runs into the open center of the

business district, a magnificant tapestry of color and noise called the Market Square. Traffic

flows from the square through here, avoiding the tall statue in the center of this street that is

surrounded by a small garden, and heading out onto the bridge. Bowman Street itself extends north

and south, flanked by the continuous length of three story buildings that comprise the Barracks

and Stables along the west of the street, and most notable comprise Brue\'s famous inn the Fiery

Flagon and the Town Hall along the east.

Dale-Lands Time:

Sterday, early afternoon on a clear autumn\'s day, October 22 of 3053

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Dale-Lands Time and Weather Service =-=-=-=

[Adom]

Electric air hovers crisply above the wooden streets of this Reed Dwelling. Gentle is the wind

flowing from the west, slightest chill in its breath from crossing the mighty Misty Moutains. The

endlessly busied people of Dale have responded, dressed warmly now in rich colors and fabrics -

for those with the means to procure a proper Autumn\'s wardrobe. The lesser folk yet sport new

cloaks and sturdy boots in preperation for Winter, but none speak of its coming in such a perfect

day. Overhead the crystalline sky is without cloud, an afternoon warmed with glowing sun business

doubles at every intersection.

On the western side of Bowman Street, parked into an alleyway so as to not disrupt the

flow of pedestrian traffic, the Vintner of Finney\'s cart is unladen. The four wheels cambre

slightly inwards without the usual stacks of crated wines and large casks of ale. Alesbarr, mighty

hound of hunt, slumbers deeply upon the truck-bed, paws stretched at length and tongue lolling

freely from his maw. Adom sits upon the edge, large notebook opened in his lap as he pours through

page after page - freed of his thicker coverings in the bright day. He looks from his work as the

argument grows among the old men circled closely around a fire-basin at the nearest corner south.

At the nearest corner north the clink of metal signals another changing of guard at the Barracks.

[Rhea(#30437)]

Coming back towards Bowman street from the direction of the docks is the newest addition to Girion

Place here in Esgaroth. The blonde haired woman is walking quickly, a Girion guard following

several paces behind her. She has, at least, not lost the man yet today. Her dress is a deep

Burgundy color that trails slightly on the ground as she walks, only the tips of her brown boots

showing. The sleeves are wide, a delicate white pattern embroidered up to about the elbows. She

glances over her shoulder every few steps to see if her guard is still there, her nose wrinkling

slightly at the realization that he is. She stops for a moment to the side of the street, taking a

look around before continuing on.

Her path takes her past the alley Adom has tucked his cart into and she slows, blue eyes

flickering over first the cart and then the man before finally settling on the sleeping hound. She

takes a few steps closer to the alley. When she\'s too close for her passing by to be chance, she

does turn to nod her head politely at Adom. \"What a pretty hound,\" she tells him quietly, a

flicker of a smile at her lips.

[Adom]

Fondness for the fairer sex ever a constant between man and his dog, Alesbarr responds first to

the wondrous mix of pleasant smells he has the advantage of enjoying far more deeply. His head

lifts even before she speaks, the sound of at least one word often spoken of his four-legged

presence rustling him from a nap - but he has no complaint. A wide yawn, a final reach forward of

front limbs, and he is up and onto the street-boards with a weighty plop. As Adom closes his work,

setting the thick book to his left, the hound steps to the lady and politely sits upon rump before

her. \"He\'s a good fella, that Alesbarr. I haven\'t been able to leave him guarding my wares as much

as I used to, now that he\'s made so many friends about town,\" the Vintner speaks warmly after his

own nod of greeting, \"though he will always signal me should I be wary. Better judge of character

than I. Something magical about their abilities, don\'t you think?\"

Not one to sit while a Lady should stand, he lifts from the cart-bed himself landing in

similar fashion to his companion and matching the approach - without the final rest upon

hind-quarters. \"Adom Whitesides, vintner of Finney,\" he adds, a clear air of pride upon his

self-given title as palm of right hand rests flat on his chest amidst a clear bow of head and

shoulders in introduction.

[Rhea(#30437)]

\"Well hello there,\" Rhea says, her smile growing as the hound wakes. She moves a little closer,

offering out a hand for him to sniff before she takes the liberty of reaching to scratch his head.

\"You are very handsome, aren\'t you, Alesbarr? No wonder you have made so many friends about town.\"

Her gaze flickers back to Adom, a smile lingering at her lips. \"I can see that. And certainly,

they are excellent judges of character. I am thinking about asking my brother for a hound, perhaps

to replace my body guard.\" THe statement comes wiht both a furrow of her brow and a slight smirk

as she glances behind her again. Her guard is standing dutifully at the corner of the alleyway,

but his eyes are on her rather constantly.

Rhea watches as Adom stands, bowing her head and sinking into a brief half-curtsey. \"A pleasure. I

am Rhea of Girion.\" THere is a brief pause before she adds, \"Toy-maker.\"

[Lorthrain(#23381)]

It is then that from the north saunters a third figure, and the man known as Scampre can be espied

along Bowman Street. The disheveled rogue seems in fair spirits or so it would appear to judge by

the grin upon his lips. The sight of Adom and Rhea slows his stride only little, and then briefly

besides, ere he meanders his way closer.

[Adom]

Quick to befriend many, Alesbarr has certainly found another in this Lady of the most noble house.

The touch is welcomed with a furry push of skull into her palm for more attention, as Adom watches

with lack of any surprise shown in unwrinkled face. Well-behaved this animal, looking up to the

lady with light chocolate eyes - tail announcing his pleasure in repeated slaps against the wood

where he sits.

Very briefly the Vintners gaze meets with Rheas guard, offering only simple nod and no

introduction to the stern look that returns. Looking back to her he whispers, \"It costs much less

to feed a hound, perhaps that might strike your brothers pockets and force his hand.\" A sudden

smile bursts widely cheek to cheek and lingers as he pauses, hands then folding behind his back.

\"A toy maker, of Girion? A rare combination of work and nobility, and wonderfully met! Before I

return to the farm-house for winter holidays I shall seek you, as my four sisters are collecting

wonderful little families of their own!\" the Vintner speaks, an earnest excitement within the

words.

But the smile drops completely in an instant, as a familiar figure approaches in Adom\'s

view over the Lady\'s shoulder. A change darts across every feature, even eyes narrowing the man

is aware of this moment, this complete shift in countenance. He can only speak once more in hushed

tones simply, \"Oh. My.\"

[Rhea(#30437)]

Rhea\'s hand returns to Alesbarr\'s head, patting it gently as she talks to his master. \"How true,

though I am not so sure it will be that easy to convince Lorthrain. I\'ve promised at least to not

find myself away from my guard by accident today, though. I think, perhaps, once I have been in

town longer than a few days though, his desire to have me watched will lessen. Or, I hope.\" She

offers Adom a small smile before nodding. \"Yes. I don\'t have a shop yet, but I\'ve only just

arrived from Dale. I did bring some things I\'ve made with me though. I would be happy to show them

to you sometime if you are in need of toys.\" A hand lifts to push her long curls back off her

face. \"And I do not think it so rare to find work and nobility mixed.\" She glances back over her

shoulder though, his punctuated words stopping her from saying anything more. She looks back at

him, blue eyes bright. \"Is there a problem?\" she murmurs, matching his hushed tones. Despite the

volume though there is certainly curiosity lingering.

[Lorthrain(#23381)]

The approach of the aging pickpocket does slow then as he passes close by, and Scampre grins all

the more as he looks the Girion lady over. But as his gaze slips soon after to Adom, a glimmer

there can be found even in the drab weather.

\"Well, bless my soul,\" says the notorious fellow. \"Are you that chap named Adom? The one with the

wines and things? And goodness but you\'ve got a gorgeous lady-friend with you. A lucky man,\" he

adds, nodding sagely, \"a lucky man indeed.\"

[Adom]

As before a single word woke the hound, now a single word breaks the Vintner\'s stance, eyes

opening, a visible but unconscious shake of his head, as he speaks quickly, \"Lorthrain? Lord

Lorthrain? Sister. This shall be a meeting neither of us will forget. But.. a short one.\" He looks

down to Alesbarr, commanding before Scampre\'s final approach, \"You stay boy. Stay. With the lady.\"

Perhaps the growing friendship between hound and an Elven Child has increased his mind and

vocabulary, for the dog looks to his master and then to the lady, before rising to her side.

\"M\'Lady, today you might be grateful for your guard,\" the Vintner speaks, ignoring

Scampre\'s boisterous imposition in words but not in regard - heated eyes pointed to the rogue.

Focus locked upon him, Adom declares, \"We\'ll see about luck - and who\'s might be running out. I

care not about your years, scoundrel.\"

For but a quick moment then, Adom looks again to Rhea, apology sincere in his tones, \"Forgive me

for this, my mind is long set.\" As quickly as steel rings from scabbard, so the Vintner is away

from his hound and her company and immediately before the reputed man of the Underdecks. \"You pour

ale while Arla is trampled? You sick your fat Toby on that poor fisher girl and her she-elf

friend? No more! My wrath is upon you, curr,\" scoffs the Vintner, his own face but inches from one

of near equal build and height. Without further words, his intent is made clear: a fist rears back

and forward towards Scampre\'s nose.

You attack Scampre with your Bare Hands...

[Combat(#13388)->Adom]

Scampre dodges your attack.

[Lorthrain(#23381)]

As Adom\'s fist comes flying in, the rogue\'s eyes widen, and with a weasally grace he twists aside

the punch his grin fading fast from his unshaven features. His own fists ball up before him, a

sharp spark of battle in his eyes, and Scampre steals a survey of the vintner as he circles

warily.

\"What\'s this all about then, eh?\" he scowls, and lowers his head in readiness behind his guard.

\"You\'ve got a cheek to accost a man in the street! Or is one such as me too lowly to be affored

such freedoms as anyone else?\" he asks then of Rhea clearly outraged.

ARB: Scampre has \"passed\" on its turn to attack.

[Rhea(#30437)]

Rhea gives a small nod, smiling still. \"Yes, Lorthrain is my older brother.\" A short laugh

follows. \"Oh? And why is it something we shall not forget?\" She turns again though, Alesbarr at

her side. SHe keeps a hand on his head as she looks towards where Adom is headed. Her guard has

moved close to her, watching Scampre warily. Rhea though, ignores him, taking a few steps after

Adom. She\'s only a few feet away when Adom swings his fist at Scampre. There is a soft gasp from

the woman, but she barely flinches. It may be missed at first, but there is a small sparkle of

excitement in those blue eyes of hers. When Scampre looks to her though she steps forward, looking

between the two men for a moment. Her gaze rests on Adom. \"I hardly think such a display would

benefit any party involved, despite what offenses this man may have caused? It would be a shame to

let your anger best you and have your reputation lowered because of such.\" Her gaze flickers to

Scampre then, looking the man over in a swift motion. \"However, sir. The accusations he poses are

hardly honorable. Should they not be addressed?\"

[Adom]

\"I know the penalties as true as you, fool,\" laughs the Vintner, a curious smile wry and cocked to

left cheek as he matches the circle of feet, \"but I need not know what may be called \'facts\' about

you, I\'m certain the word don\'t apply - no not in your gilded palms. Your pretty tongue isn\'t

gonna change a thing. My cart\'s empty, I\'ll take my punishment - and give you yours!\"

\"M\'lady, please, step back. I\'ll let my reputation face what shall pass,\" he adds, without

any shift in posture from his target, \"I spake truth - my mind is set.\" His own fists raised in

guard, eyes narrowed and banter at last thrown aside Adom tests Scampre with a shake of shoulder -

but no blow thrown. Hands knuckled white remain aloft, and again the fury of fist zips through the

air seeking the gap between the rogue\'s lifted hands.

You attack Scampre with your Bare Hands...

[Combat(#13388)->Adom]

Your attack against Scampre mildly wounds it!

[Lorthrain(#23381)]

The fury of Adom\'s fist breaks through the wary guard of Scampre, and catches the rogue on the

cheek as he weaves to escape a broken nose. A growl leaves his lipe then, and aiming a sharp,

swift kick of his boot to Adom\'s knee he cries out: \"You get away from me, hothead! I\'ve done

nothing wrong, and I\'ll not take this treatment from liars!\"

Scampre launches his fist at Adom!

...and it hits! Ouch!

[Adom]

A yelp of his own flies from Adom\'s mouth, as heat of impact wobbles his knee - and his stance.

Heat grows on his cheeks, and in his eyes narrowed to focused slits, shadows arcing long

exaggeration of this ancient dance. \"Bring in your witnesses,\" he retorts in renewed approach and

vigor, \"and I\'ll bring mine.\" Words and official judgment may wait, but not the Vintner\'s version

this day.

Holding right fist back, readied to strike, Adom plays a gambit, and instead swings the left in a

sweeping arc to wherever it might land in side-swipe.

You blindly attack Scampre with your Bare Hands...

[Combat(#13388)->Adom]

Your attack against Scampre mildly wounds it!

[Rhea(#30437)]

Rhea takes a step back when the next blow is thrown. \"STOP!\" she cries at the men, stepping

closer once more. \"Please, stop this. There are better ways to handle this.\" Their flying fists

don\'t seem to deter her as she steps even closer, turning sharply for a moment for her guard. She

beckons him closer with a quick flick of her wrist.

[Lorthrain(#23381)]

The fist of Adom lands squarely upon Scampre\'s jaw with a *crack*, and the rogue staggers backward

a pace as he shakes his head to clear his wits. \"Oh, you\'ll pay for that..\" he promises darkly,

but even as he ruond to close with Adom in retaliation, his furtive gaze flits to the advance of

Rhea\'s guard.

Halting then in his stride, and even stapping back another pace warily, the commoner looks from

the lady to the vintner and back again. \"I was only defending myself!\" he proclaims, and scowls

deeply.

ARB: Scampre has \"passed\" on its turn to attack.

[Adom]

Heavy breaths rise and fall in the vintner, the studded jerkin expanding with his chest. Whether

wits returning, the lady\'s pleading or the armed guard of Girion approaching stops his attack,

Adom makes no clarification. Even with fists still raised for his own defense, he takes a single

step back from his opponent, adding in deeply toned promise, \"Any time we cross paths, verily, you

will be defending yourself. Count on it, wretch, my word is good - and does not require payment to

be spoken as yours.\"

Without releasing his gaze from Scampre, he takes a second step back, and Alesbarr joins

him now - breathing deeply of the scents of this man, memorizing now a known enemy to his master.

[Jamis(#27883)]

Along comes a man - tall and proud. His cloak floats around him and eyes peer out to the world

with a steady and secure calmness. Walking with a whistle it is cut short by the sight before him

two men cought by each others fists for the moment. Narrowing his eyes steps lead in his

direction.

\"What is going on here?\" his voice is demanding, \"You must be Adom, is everything alright?\" says

he to the vinter, a look is passed to Scampre and then to the woman his gaze moves, rests a moment

and a half smile in greeting is offered with a nod, the men once more recieving a glare.

[Rhea(#30437)]

When Rhea\'s guard is close enough, she reaches towards him, her hand going for the hilt of the

sword the man is carrying. She shoots him a look, eyes narrowed and set, daring him to try and

stop her as she un-sheaths the blade. The sword is handled with much more finesse than one might

except, and she swings it before her, holding it steady as she looks at the two men. \"I said.

Stop.\" THe words come more quietly now, but much more forcefully as the woman stands there, sword

held aloft and pointed at the two men still.

Rhea tenses slightly when another voice joins the fray. Despite the unfamiliar quality, there is a

moment of fear that she has been caught by her brother. She turns slightly, eyeing the man for a

moment before slowly returning his smile. Her own is a bit sheepish though as she stays standing

there, sword still in hand.

[Lorthrain(#23381)]

But Scampre is far from still, and his finger points accusingly toward the vintner. \"You hear

that? He\'s threatening me, he is, and right in front of a noble! Am I to walk the streets of

Laketown as a man who can be so mistreated? I\'ve not done a thing here, m\'Lady Girion, and yet

there\'s a sword sticking out at me!\"

As Jamis arrives, Scampre straightens up and grunts. \"I want this man arrested, fer indecnetly

assaulting a fellow chap of Laketown. Ain\'t there some kind of law around here?\"

[Adom]

Curious is the single fold upon Adom\'s brow as a blade joins and plays sudden judge to the

occasion. While Adom follows the instructions by stepping a third pace backwards, his answer to

Jamis is decisive, \"When Lady Arla was trounced by drunkards at the Fish-tail, there were many

involved. Most were fools lost to intoxication and a moment.\"

Only now at last does he look away from the rogue, fists slowly lowering to his sides

still tightly gripped. Between the Girion guard and Jamis his eyes dart back and forth amidst

further response, \"While only I and my family\'s work foreman, Daved, provided her defense, this

waste of air thought it a game - stealing ale from the keeper\'s unguarded bar and cracking jokes.

If i knew not before, seems he\'s got some leadership amongst them ruffians and hooligans - as one

followed his command and assaulted a she-elf upon her entry to the bar.\"

Heavy breaths of rage grow again as the memory is replayed in words and thought, and once

more he scowls at Scampre, \"Apparently you can\'t read. Clear words posted beyond the western gate.

I can assault you twice more with little punishment - and I\'ll take it - since none else seems

willing to clap you in irons.\" Once more the cocked smile lifts, and an overplayed wink flies to

the rogue in place of fist as he quips, \"I\'m guilty of this assault, I make no denial.\"

[Jamis(#27883)]

Eyes drift to the woman again, Jamis tilts his head and says to her: \"Lady, there is no need for a

sword, your passion is appriacated, though I do not think anyone wants to be unduely stabbed.\" his

words are soft kind and warm, a hand moves to where hers are, on the hilt of the blade, to gently

remove it from her grasp and return it to the guard.

Looking back to the men, he says:

\"There are many laws,\" states him firmly now, the manner of his tone changed to something more

serious. \"I do not agree with public fighting, but I am curious as to -why- you two saw fit to

fight, espically infront of a Lady, now, perhaps we need to remove you two from this place and go

to the barracks and talk this out? I failed to see the start, but I will be present for the

finish.\" he speaks on even ground, and not knowing the true beginnings of this, it seems he is

making no assumption of either party till both sides are heard.

Yet it is at Adoms words that this Kings Man is halted with words, and he listens intently.

Blinking a few times it is a few spare glances that are passed to Scampre. \"My sister was badly

hurt that day,\" he begins with near a growl. \"She told my many things about you Adom - how you

fought to save her, injured yourself in the process, I myself owe you a debt for the deeds you

have done. One that I will repay one day.\" eyes move from the vinter then to the other man, he

states firmly: \"You must be Scampre then, yes, you I\'ve also heard of.\" it seems there is little

left for kind words to him, he continues on. \"The vinter is in some right of defence of honour and

pride, your actions alone to agree with him where not right - yet they were -your- actions,

offering aid is a decision of yours to do or not, but stealing from a bar while a brawl is afoot,

well, the theft is not right in of itself.\" there is almost something threatening to his tone.

[Rhea(#30437)]

\"It is pointed at both of you,\" Rhea tell Scampre. Her gaze drifts to the newcomer though. \"I was

not /actually/ going to stab them,\" she tells him. But with a flourish, the sword is pulled back

and offered back to her guard, the hilt facing him. The blonde has certainly handled a sword

before, there is no doubt. Once it is out of her hands she turns to face Jamis. Her lips part to

speak, but as he mentions the woman Adom defended being his sister, she holds her tongue.

[Lorthrain(#23381)]

\"Theft? Theft?\" protests Scampre to Jamis, and he wears a mask of outrage. \"What theft? Old Medhir

and me go a long ways back, and if you want to ask her about theft, go right ahead. She\'ll tell

you I\'m owed a few pints anyways, and that she didn\'t mind a jot.\"

\"And as fer you,\" he adds to Adom, whirling about to face the vintner, \"what is it I\'m supposed to

have done wrong by not joining in yer ruckus? I\'m supposed to disturb the peace with you just

because yer so uncivil yerself? I\'ll not stoop to a bar brawl just because a noble lady and a

poncy wine-drinker have gotten themselves into a scrap. Why, that\'s be only making the fight

worse, wouldn\'t it?\"

He eyes Rhea then, saying naught else but glaring meaningfully.

[Adom]

\"You think this your show,\" retorts Adom, \"But I be no puppet and you have no strings on me. Yes,

pull the rest of your rabble where you will, but I know what you are. I\'ll tear down your whole

stage and show this town what\'s going on behind your curtain. I heard you tell that fat fella to

attack, and boy did he jump at your order - keep his strings extra tight don\'t ya, rat?\"

The circle of curious onlookers continues to grow - and at last large enough to attract

attention of Watchmen. A trio pushes towards the center, emerging behind Adom, and declaring,

\"Whats all the ruckous? Don\'t you folk know its daytime, and this is a public STREET?\" their

seargent declares.

\"One where I have assaulted that man,\" Adom answers sharply, pointing to Scampre and

continuing, \"with these folks as witnesses. Take me away for your questions, I admit my guilt.\"

Befuddled, but dutiful, the men look amongst each other, and then to Adom. The largest places a

firm hand on the Vintners shoulder, and he follows the lead of two guards through the parting

noise of confusion and questions. The third lingers to verify the confession.

[Jamis(#27883)]

Jamis says to the woman: \"I see you can wield a blade, Lady, I will remember that, and know you do

not aim to poke people.\" he chuckles.

Back to a more serious matter, he looks over to Adom in silence and watches him leave. Left there

is Scampre, and to him he says: \"If you wish to come with me, we will write up a report and get

this sorted, he admitted his wrongs, after all.\" with a dryness to his tone eyes watch the man

intently, as though sizing him up.

[Rhea(#30437)]

Rhea looks to Jamis once more, blinking a moment before smirking just slightly. \"It\'s a good skill

to have, I\'ve found.\" Her smirk molds into a sweet smile before looking back to the others.

Scampre\'s glare is ignored mometarily as the Watchmen takes Adom away. \"Sir, wait!\" But it\'s too

late. She looks back at the others, a bit helplessly. She looks to where Adom disappeared, and

back again. She steps closer to Alesbarr, placing her hand on his head. Her attention is on Jamis

though. \"Sir, I need to go find my brother. I\'ll be at Girion Place if you need me. My name is

Rhea.\" She glances to her guard and then the hound. \"C\'mon Alesbarr, come with me? We\'ll go find

Lor and see about your master, okay?\" She scratches his head, trying to convince him to come along

with her.

[Lorthrain(#23381)]

Arching a brow as Rhea reveals her identity, Scampre\'s interest seems piqued indeed by the name,

though it is to Jamis that he turns to speak. \"Aye, I\'ve a full mind to do just that, m\'lord,

though in truth I\'m a busy man. I was on my way to see about helping a poor old lady moving her

furniture, whe I was so outrageously accosted. She\'s poorly, you see, and it breaks my heart to

know she\'s all on her lonesome. While I\'m sure it\'d do her own heart good to know what a miscreant

like that has been dealt with, I raher fancy she\'d prefer me there sooner instead.\"

He waves his hand airily. \"Let him go, I say. What goes aorund comes around, I always say.\"

[Jamis(#27883)]

\"Very well, Lady!\" says Jamis to Rhea, \"My sister too has a hound, if you need help I know their

dogs are friends, perhaps seek her out too if you must. Fare thee well!\"

Then, he looks back to Scampre. \"It is your choice, Sir, if you are in need of anything else

please come and find me, the matters Adom claimed are close to home, so I will hold a personal

involvement.\" yet does he believe he is off to help an old lady? It isn\'t evident in his eyes that

he does. \"Otherwise, have a good day.\"

[Lorthrain(#23381)]

\"Aye, you have one an\' all,\" nods the rogue, and he touches his finger to his forelock in a lazy

salute. \"Good luck catching those thieves,\" he adds, smiling widely.
