Top of the Carrock

You are on the top of the sixty foot slab of rock known as the Carrock. About it the river Anduin slides its way to the south. It can be seen stretching far off to the south, as well as its starting point obscured by the distance in the north. On the western side of the massive stone, a great wooden swinging-bridge has been constructed, making the river passable.

In the light of the day you can make out the areas surrounding the Carrock. The great Mistie mountains lie towards the west, towering over the lands of the Rhovanion. To the south you can make out patches of green of forests, though what they are can\'t be told for sure. To the east lies the great forest of Mirkwood, twisted and dark green.

Rain pours down from the day sky, drenching all around you. The dawn spring air is warm and humid around you. The moon is waxing gibbous.

[Sulgirion(#16643)]

The sky of dawn is overcast this spring morning, and sheets of chilly rain pelt down from above. Under the gray blanket of clouds the mighty river Anduin thunders, its course lapping against the large form of the Carrock that sits in its midst.

A shape is perched upon this enormous slab of stone -- a golden head is busy preening feathers under a wing, and now and then the Great Eagle ruffles the rest of its bronze feathers, sending rain drops scattering all about the surface of the rock platform.

[Valoron(#16133)]

Despite the ill weather, one lonely wanderer makes his way from his small camp near the side of the river to the lonely Carrock. His cloak is pulled tight around him and his hood conceals his face. Slowly he makes his way up the large rock until he reaches the top, here he catches sight of the Eagle.

He pulls back his hood immediately, revealing his elven features. \"I\'m sorry.\" He offers quickly. \"I wasn\'t aware anyone was in residence here.\" Valoron\'s expression clearly shows his surprise.

[Sulgirion(#16643)]

The cleaning of the feathers halts, and the great neck raises. Sulgirion tilts his head to the side, observing the light footed arrival silently for a moment. Beneath the large unblinking amber eyes, the beak opens to emit a wild-accented Westron. \"Hail, Firstborn,\" says the eagle, and an odd sort of sound comes -- an avian laugh it would seem to be.

\"Residence? Nay, I have come from the skies for a time to rest here. The sight of fish in the River\'s waters enticed me to land, for it has been a while since I caught sight of larger prey.\" The beak clackes open and shut, and then falls quiet once more.

[Valoron(#16133)]

The elf places a flat palm on his chest and bows his head for a moment before replying. \"There is little beside fish here today it would seem, I saw little this past night, not even a hare would venture into the cold rain.\" Valoron then takes a few steps to get a good view of the land to the east. \"Have you been circling the area for long?\" He finally asks.

[Sulgirion(#16643)]

\"I have flown northeast from the last peaks of the Misty Mountains, and have not been here long,\" replies Sulgirion, turning a gold-crowned head to look to the mist-shrouded ridges. \"Only a few days I have spent in this area since I arrived, and have found it as you say: not much has been seen moving about.\" The gaze returns to regard the Elf. \"But you dwell in yonder Mirkwood, do you not? I hope your people have not been plagued by the orc-hordes. Up here, this far north they seem to have been quiet, for I have not espied any sign of them for the most part...but southward is another matter.\"

The great feathered brow furrows. \"Many trees have been felled is seems down in that direction, and the marks their trunks bear are carved from goblin-axe.\"

[Valoron(#16133)]

\"One of the small towns near the forest suffered an attack, though things have been somewhat quiet as of late.\" Valoron says before pausing to brush some damp hair behind his ears. \"I\'ve been searching for sight or sign of movement for a few days now, I had seen or heard little until I met you.\" The young elf now starts to look out to the south. \"It is in the south they are toiling away, then.\"

[Valoron(#16133)]

\"Also, yes, I am from the Greenwood, my name is Valoron.\"

[Sulgirion(#16643)]

The Great Eagle nods, a movement that dislodges several huge droplets of water. \"Indeed, to the south their foul purposes have been directed as of late.\" Sulgirion dips his neck in acknowledgement, and likewise he introduces himself, \"Ah, well met, friend. I am known as Sulgirion, and from the northern eyries I hail. How fares your Lord, the Elvenking? I fear I will need to speak with him regarding this odd orcish behavior. Whatever the monsters have in mind must no doubt bode ill for this wood.\"

[Valoron(#16133)]

\"An unexpected and welcome meeting Sulgirion, I must say.\" Valoron replies with a smile somewhat out of place in the nasty weather. \"The King fares well, I have ventured here for word to send back to him. I will relay any message.\" He pauses again, thinking. \"I could see to arrange a meeting, the eyes of an eagles could only help in such times.\"

[Sulgirion(#16643)]

At this the raptor nods anew. \"Very well, I thank you. I shall come to his Northern realm as soon as I am able, but in the meantime any news you can convey to him ere I arrive is appreciated. I am afraid there is not much as of yet that I can tell -- at least none more than I have already relayed. Trees are being felled in great numbers to the south, but for what designs I cannot say.\"

Sulgirion\'s head drops lower to fix a few feathers, and when it rises again, his shifts his amber gaze southward. \"I think I shall see what more I can gather of their activities, and then I shall sail the winds toward your land. If I cannot meet with the King, then let it be so. I will be content to know that this information reaches him through you.\"

[Valoron(#16133)]

\"I\'ll tell him all you have told me, it is more than I could have hoped to have seen on my own, he will be pleased to know others are watching where we cannot.\" Valoron adds with one last long glance to the south of the forest. \"I\'ve lingered too long this far to the west, I should hurry if I am to make it back in good time.\" He bows his head once more and pulls his hood back up. \"I\'ll be leaving in high spirits after this meeting, even you might not be able to fly above them, thank you my friend.\" The elf then moves for the edge of the carrock.

[Sulgirion(#16643)]

\"Farewell for now,\" calls the eagle, and the large eyes are bright, indicating a smile that his still hooked mouth cannot convey. \"May your feet prove swift and sure, and may no evil hinder your journey.\"

And with that, he lets out a shrill avian screech. The water below is given his study, and Sulgirion bounds into the air, hanging low to begin dipping talons into the water for the flitting fish that swim in its cold current.
