Chamberlain\'s Residency

The Royal Chamberlain\'s office opens up to some four hundred square feet. At the left side of the room cabinets line the walls, the few that are open show many volumes and scrolls. There is no dust upon it\'s shelves as you can guess the proprietress uses the information they contain frequently. The floor is made of oak and polished to a dull shine.

A window that spans from floor to ceiling is inlaid on the far side of the room. A large U-shaped desk sits strangely facing the window facing out over Dol Amorth. Ornate, expensive drapes hang to the sides of the great window. A comfortable looking chair of a rich mahogany and soft fabric lining sits behind the desk. There are no chairs in front of the desk, leading to an assumption that those seeking the ear of the Chamberlain must stand.

On the right hand side of the room are several bookshelves filled. Their titles are numerous and varied and few have dust showing that they too are read and gone through often. In the far right corner, on the far side of the desk another chair sits in the corner facing out, three other chairs circling it facing the single chair. A small table stands next to each of the three chairs, a slightly larger one standing next to the single chair. It appears as if the Chamberlain uses these chairs for the more important of her meetings. Also on the right is a hearth that provides the room with warmth during the colder evenings and weather. Upon the mantle of the hearth are several candelabras and two sconces that sit aside the rock ledge. At the center of the mantle sits a richly engraved box, designed with a golden dragon on the lid. Two crisscrossed swords, one designed for sport and one designed for war, are set over the hearth.

Several paintings line the spaces on the walls throughout the room filling it out without taking up much space.

Out

The afternoon sun\'s light shine freely through the open curtains of the grand window of the room. The view of Dol Amroth spread out before the window. Gweneth sits behind her desk, a myriad of books and thick tomes spread across her desk. Her slender fingers run quickly over the text, turning the pages quickly. The room is otherwise empty.

Drenlyn head peers through the half-opened door as he knocks. Looking with interest at the shelves of books lining the walls of the room. His eyes center on the lady Bragollach, \"Pardon me my lady,\" begins Drenlyn noticing the lady\'s concentration with her texts, \"am I intruding?\"

Gweneth looks up, smiling, \"Young Drenlyn, no it is all right. I am pleased with how quickly you answered my summons.\" She rises from her desk, motioning with her hand to the chairs in the corner of the room, \"Shall we go and sit?\" she questions already moving towards them.

Drenlyn, with a look of relief, moves towards the chairs, \"We shall indeed if it pleases you my lady.\" Proceeding to sit, Drenlyn proceeds, \"My haste my lady only mirrored my gladness to answer your summons, and so I came with as much haste as could be allowed.\"

Gweneth raises her brow, \"Your gladness.\" She chuckles, \"Well, we can speak of that later. I wish to speak on those words you were speaking when I walked into the common room that night.\"

With a downcast face Drenlyn, begins to turn in his chair, \"If indeed you wish me to speak of such unpleasant matters, I shall my lady, for I have wished long to talk to someone about that night, but none would lend me an ear.\"

The lady only offers a warm smile in return, \"Consider my ear lended.\"

Drenlyn\'s face smoothens out as his eyes focus intently upon Gweneth, \"Well my lady it began as clear morning, about a fortnight ago. I choose to break my fast in the hanging gardens quite frequently, and so I found myself there, with a traveler, and a frightened little girl.\" Pausing

Drenlyn takes a deep breath as his eyes move inwards as he recalls the situation further, \"This girl it seemed was deathly afraid of some evil demon in the wardrobe in her room. After questioning her during the rising of the sun, it appeared that she had bruises on her arms, as if she was forcefully restrained in some way. Suddenly, this little girl, after looking to the archway of the gardens, ran to the furthest end in an attempt to hide from an unknown foe. As soon as I arrived to comfort her, she ran into the dense brush, and then ... and then.....\"

Gweneth looks at Drenlyn carefully, his story being greeted with a bit of skepticism. \"Young girls are known to be afraid of silly things. Most likely a spider or just the dark itself. But continue on, she ran behind some brush?\"

Drenlyn, with a slight look of surprise, gazes at the Lady of Bragollach intently, \"My lady the fear that this girl harbored, was more intense than any I have seen. She was mortally afraid of a man she never saw, who was always angry with her for some unknown reason.\"

His face regaining its look of concentration, Drenlyn continues, \"Nonetheless, as this girl disappeared in to some brush, the most horrid sounds of flesh and bone being rendered apart by a blade could be heard from the direction that the girl had disappeared. As the young girls screams blended with this most disturbing sound, the traveler and I rushed to the bushes where she had disappeared, and searched the garden frantically to no avail. I found no cloth where she ran through the brush, nor any marks of violence anywhere in the garden. I only regret that I had not believed her fears from the start, for I doubt that she still lives if she was indeed attacked.\"

With that Drenlyn sits erect as his face becomes an image of regret, and sadness. His eyes still focused on Gweneth, Drenlyn awaits a response.

Gweneth looks away from Drenlyn, appearing quite disturbed, \"This... this traveler that was with you. Do you know his name? Can he confirm this story? And have you told your Knight, Thorondur of this? Why did you not report this at once to someone?\"

\"My lady you must understand the condition that I was in at the time.\" Drenlyn, now looking even more remorseful continues, \"I was not able to get the traveler\'s name, nor he mine, for we were intent upon the girl. If he is still in Dol Amroth, I would think that he would leave it of fear, but if he is found he can confirm the story.\"

Taking another deep breath Drenlyn proceeds to speak, \"As to telling the Lord Girithlin, I have tried but he has been very busy with other matters, as with all my fellow squires. When you met me in the commons I was still dwelling on whom to tell my story, and if it would have helped matters.\"

\"Thorondur is the Knight-Herald and commands powerful resources to search out the girl and the traveler you speak of. With you having such a close connection with him, it would be wise of you to report it to him. In fact, I would insist upon it. I would take it to him myself, but I think he would not believe me,\" Gweneth says. Just then her door opens and the face of a young maid peers in, \"Milady, the delegate from Rohan has arrived. Would you like him sent here?\" Gweneth nods and smiles, \"Indeed, show him up,\" then looks to Drenlyn, \"My duties call. Go now and take care young squire, and speak to your knight. It is their duty to teach, guide and train you in all matters. Make good use of them.\"

Rising, Drenlyn nods to Gweneth, \"I shall my lady, and do take care. One knows not of the dangers in Dol Amroth now.\" With that Drenlyn turns to the door.
