*Note - log supplied by Tamran*
It is night. The dusky scent of the training grounds wafts up on high. Yet it is not desolate, for now an officer of the guard, with several men enter into the grounds with troubled faces.
\"I tell you Sergeant,\" says the officer slowly. \"Many strange things are afoot. An evil hour comes upon us.\"
[Amrun(#22647)] Comming from lower stonewright is one cloaked in green, hurryin at step, towrads the barracks, indeed many a strange thing has happened, and after what he has heard of assassains, he has felt his call to come. Amrun stops and slows as he sees officers ahead of him, nodding he starts off towrads them.
\"Aye Commander, stranger they seem to get with each passing day. Do you ever remember Guards being attack behind our lines?\" Tamran says softly, walking besides Orodroth. His gaze falls upon the man before them, as he makes his way into the night, \"Who goes there!\" he says in a loud yet clear voice.
[Orodroth(#10108)] \"No,\" replies Orodroth, \"but...\" He pauses at the appearance of this man. He does not speak, allowing the Sergeant of Arms to be his voice.
[Amrun(#22647)] \" I am Amrun, citizen of Minas Tirith Sir!\" reports the deep voiced man, he steps furhter in from the darkness into the light. His eyes shift between the two \" I am looking for the Head of the Guards, or an officer who can take my oath. I know that Gondor is in a time of need and I am sending my services up.\"
[Orodroth(#10108)] The man bearing the markings of a commander steps forward, \"Amrun is it? Are you a Man of the Stone City?\"
\"And you walk at this late hour to take the Oath? Are you in such a hurry to give your life?\" Tamran says with a grave voice, his eyes studying the man before him.
Amrun nods \" Aye sir, I would give my life for this city and for this country at anytime.\" He then looks to Orodoth \" Yes sir, I have lived here for some time. Though I be not of this city originally.\"
[Orodroth(#10108)] Rubbing his chin the commander asks, \"How old are you?\"
[Amrun(#22647)] \"Twenty-two Sir.\" replies the man.
[Orodroth(#10108)] The Commander smiles for a moment, \"Where were you from originally?\"
Amrun says, \"The port town of Adrast, my father moved here after my sister was born sir.\"
Tamran stands quietly behind the Commander, eyeing the stranger as he answer the questions of the officer. At lenght he says, \"And what has made you wish to join the Guard?\"
[Orodroth(#10108)] The Commander takes a step back and smiles.
Amrun looks to tamran \" Well sir, I always had an inkling of a dream as a lad, but my father told me to stop, don\'t follow my uncle , So I thought no more till we moved here when I was fifteen. Saw more guards, and as of now, why I chose sir, I felt that I am mature enough to handle the responsiblity.\" he nods then looks back at the smiling commander.
[Orodroth(#10108)] Looking grimly at Amrun the commander steps forth, his grey eyes twinkling. In a flash he draws forth his sword and cries, \"Anglach!\"
Tamran glances at Orodroth, as he draws his sword, before returning his gaze towards Amrun, \"The job of a guard is not a dream, Amrun. Danger lurks at every corner...more know then ever. Each sunrise might very well be your last...A big decision it is.\"
[Orodroth(#10108)] \"Behold Amrun!\" cries the Commander, \"This is by what you will live if you choose this fate. For good or ill. Many a life has been laid low, with bodies left for the carion. Nothing more than a feast for the birds and dogs leaving behind but weeping women and orphaned babes.\" He plants the sword at his feet and it twinkles.
Amrun jumps back as the commander draws his sword. He looks to tamrn now going to where he was. \" Yes Sir I know, I am ready to make that decision and die, if it means no one else must, even if it means I go down with comrades so that inocent people live, I would do it, and gladly.
\"Thus shall honour avenge those who chose to become Men of war,\" says the Commander. \"Is this to what you were born? Is there nothing more that you desire save to crave the heads of your foes before you?\"
The commander sneers, \"A dream? I dream too. I dream of living on my own farm, the House of Good Fortune and fate with my wife and my children by me. No tales would I tell of what I have seen. Oh that endless blood and madness that compells men to slay eachother. Kin to kin. Is this what you want? Death?\"
Amrun looks at Orodoth\" As young boys, we dream of such, but as you grow, your dreams fade into reality, I do not fream of it, I\'m not eager to cleave heads, but rather feel the call to do my duty Sir. A duty that many have done, and that many will do. As for death he is a friend I don\'t want to visit , but if he does, I know it will not have been in vain, for my life would have been traded for tothers.\"
[Orodroth(#10108)] The commander nods, \"So it is doomed.\"
\"But they are things much worse then Death...much worse. Are you prepare to face such horors? But you can not answer this, for you can not even begin to imagine this if you have not witness it.\" Tamran\'s voice is heave, his eyes dark, as he looks at Amrun.
[Orodroth(#10108)] The Commander then says to Tamran, \"By his words he has resolved himself to this life. No more shall I test him.\"
The Commander then looks at Amrun, \"I am called Orodroth son of Aradan of the Pelennor. I am the Commander of the companies of the Raven and the Silver Ship. Do you have a sword to swear upon?\"
\"It was not a test...\" Tamran says, more to himself then to the others, yet a smile he manage to put upon his face.
Amrun nods \" I have seen much, I am not the son of some citizen, kept in the gates, my father was a sailor and so I followed him when we took cargo, I\'ve seen the corsairs and their troubles.\" He looks to the Commander \" No sir, I am poor and own no weapon of mine own.\"
Orodroth smiles, \"All of life is a test.\"
Orodroth nods to the weapon implanted in the ground before his feet, \"Take the hilts of yon blade, if you are resolved on this.\"
Amrun kneels and grabs the sword and looks down then back up \" I am resolved sir.\"
Orodroth arches a slow brow, \"Then repeat after me: I do hereby swear service and fealty to Gondor and to the Lord Steward of the Realm...\"
Tamran takes a step closer, now standing besides the Commander. His eyes rest upon Amrun and his hand upon the hilt of his own sword.
[Amrun(#22647)] I do hereby swear service and fealty to Gondor and to the lord Steward of the realm..\" repeats Amrun , his own mixed accent of the region showing slightly.
Orodroth says, \"To speak, and to be silent...\"
Amrun says, \"to speak and to be silent...\"
Orodroth says, \"To do and let be...\"
Amrun says, \"To do and to let be\"
Orodroth says, \"To come and to go...\"
Amrun says, \"to come and to go\"
Orodroth says, \"In need or plenty, in peace or war, in living or dying until my lord release me, death take me, or the world ends. So say I, Amrun of the Land of Gondor.\"
Amrun says, \"In need or in plenty, in peace or war, in living or dying until my lord release me, death takes me, or the world ends. So say I Amrun of the land of Gondor.\"
Orodroth draws the sword from the earth, \"And this oath I shall swear in the name of the Steward as rightwise Commander of the Valour of the Gondor... I Orodroth son of Aradan....\"
Orodroth looks grimly and says, \"And in his name he will not forget your oath, nor fail to reward that which is given...\"
Orodroth says, \"Fealty... with love!\"
Orodroth says, \"Valour... with honour!\"
Orodroth says, \"Oathbreaking... with VENGEANCE!\"
Orodroth nods, \"Arise Man-of-Arms.\"
Amrun ndos and stands up tall and proud, his face as grim as those before him \" Yes sir.\" he says with a salute. he turns to Tamran and salutes him as well before turning back to Orodoth.
Orodroth looks first to Tamran and says, \"This Man shall be assigned to your company Sergeant of Arms, Tamran. See to it that he receives the livery of the City. Assign him to his new duties and begin his training.\"
Tamran salutes the new soldier and then turns to Orodroth and salutes once more, \"Yes sir!\". Turning his gaze once more to Amrun, he says, \"You will be assign to the First Squad of the Silver Ship Company. At first light, you are to report to Corporal Azramir. Understood Man-At-Arms?\"
Amrun nods and Salutes \" Understood Sir!\" he barks back, his deep voice comming out like brass, full and strong.
Orodroth takes a step back, \"Sergeant, I must leave you now. See to the new recruit. No need to be nice.\"
\"Aye Commander!\" Tamran says, then turning to the recruit he adds, \"This will be your last night in a long time in your own home. You are to be back here at first light, as I have said. Now go and enjoy your last few hours, but remember you have taken and are bound to your Oath from the moment you took it.
Amrun salutes and nods \" Aye Sir!\" with that he turns and walks off down the road..
