== '''History''' ==

It was a very unusual autumn night in late October- the sort where the wind blows thick snowflakes in all directions, and there are no stars, only bitter cold- when the Dunedain woman known as Lhinn went into labor. She had just traveled over the High Pass, a late season crossing, with a group of her kin, honorable descendents of the men of Westernesse. They were far from the Arnor region and home, or any safe haven that could be quickly reached; the group was camping at the base of the Misty Mountains, journeying from the Beorning's village to a stay in beautiful Imladri+s, where Lhinn had intended to give birth to a child. First labor, they say, is the hardest, and such was true for this woman, especially because the baby girl came a few weeks too soon. The child was small but her cry was healthy, and she first opened her eyes to the sight of the mountains blanketed in snow, early morning light gleaming off their peaks. That's when her mother named her Aurfaen, after the white morning into which she was born.
Because her parents favored Elrond's valley, Aurfaen spent many winters thereafter safe within the haven of Imladris. As an only child, though her parents tried and wished for a son, Aurfaen grew up the center of attention, adored every time she smiled, and taught everything that her parents knew. Books from the libraries of the Elves were put into her hands, and quill and parchment as well, as she learned the history of her own people and that of their gracious allies. She was a constant shadow at her father's side, peering around his shoulder to study the things he did, from hunting and tracking small game to fletching arrows. Wanting always to better imitate the grace of the Eldar, she was taught how to dance and play the flute.

Though her mother has long been respected as a healer among her people, Aurfaen learned only enough of this skill to be passable at healing minor injuries, and the theory of how to help with more serious wounds. When some of the Imladhrim guard, the Tirith, were injured in a skirmish with orcs and a troll out on the moors, Aurfaen's mother stayed in the valley to practice her skill; Aurfaen herself, still a child among her people at the age of seventeen, went away with her father and a small company to find this threat in the wilds and face it.

Cuts and deep bruises marred her pretty young face for a few weeks after, but Aurfaen stuck a short sword into the belly of an orc, and her father saw that she wasn't as frightened as a girl should be. Noble, good-hearted, and fiercely protective of the beautiful world she loved, Aurfaen began to travel all through Eriador with her father after that, learning skills of survival, tracking, and sword. He was perhaps too stern, being also noble and very protective of his only daughter, but Aurfaen continued to grow, and learned the meanings of words like 'honor' and 'duty.' She kept an image of the greatness of her people always at the back of her mind, one she'd learned from books and her parents' stories, and through the years she's aspired to be more like that image.

When Aurfaen began her twenty-third year, still just a girl, her father was beginning to tire more easily, growing stiff and sore from old wounds, and eventually decided to return to Imladris to spend sunny days there with his wife, Lhinn. He was confident that his daughter could carry on the legacy of their ancestors, even in her youth; after all, she had spent the past six years learning from him each day. Aurfaen acknowledged it, too, that it was time to stand on her own, and since then her face has been seen from Bree to Imladris, and even rarely on the other side of the Misty Mountains. She is a protector of animals, children, and the wilds, often quiet but confident and clever.
