== Description ==

By all appearances, a gentlehobbit, distinguished by at least five decades of age and experience. Wrinkles only seem to be making their presence known by making their way into the sides of his mouth, and around his eyes. Probably weighing in well over 120 pounds, his girth seems respectable, at least as far as Bolgers go. Despite the extra weight, and advancing age, Boldibad seems to be in fine health.

A few inches of curly, reddish-brown hair cover his head and hang down past his ears. The texture appears to be quite thick, almost wooly. His relatively large feet are coated by similar stuff, the only difference is that this hair appears to be trimmed much shorter than that on his head. His nose is somewhat bulbous, but not so much as to look out of proportion with the rest of his face.

He is wearing a white shirt of cotton, buttoned all the way up. On top of this is an old waistcoat that seems to fit him perfectly. The waistcoat is red with yellow buttons up the center and over the pockets.

Draped over his shoulders is a thick, green cloak meant to keep the chill of winter out. It is held shut with a fine brooch of silver.

A silver chain dangles from a pocket in his waistcoat. It appears to be attached to a watch.

His trousers are black and they dangle somewhat below his ankles. A black belt of thin leather has been wrapped around his waist and from it hangs a couple of pouches that probably contain money or pipeweed.
== History ==

Boldibad Bartold Bolger was born 55 years ago, on April 21, 2995 (or Astron 21, 1395 S.R.), in Brandy Hall, though he and his family have often told people that he was born in Bolger Smial. His father was Foldenbrar Bolger, a scholarly gentlehobbit-of-leisure, and his mother was Hyaline Hornblower, daughter of a successful seller of Hornblower pipeweed.

Boldibad spent much of his childhood wandering around the North-farthing, reading books and documents in the Bolger library and Oatbarton School, and learning from his elder relatives. He met the adventurous Berredan "Red" Took at Oatbarton in those days, who proved to be a bad influence on him.

Boldibad met his next great friend, Thilo Bracegirdle, around the time of his coming of-age, in 3028 T.A. (1428 S.R.). When Red was accused of stealing 3000cp raised for the poor people of Scary, Thilo, who had been a friend of Red's, went off to find him and straighten the problem out, and he took Boldibad with him. Berredan, after this, had disappeared for several years, but Thilo and Boldibad became very close, and even entered the pipeweed business together, in Hardbottle.

Boldibad stayed in the pipeweed trade for some years until he finally sold his half of the Hardbottle shop to Thilo, and moved back in to Bolger Smial (around 1436 S.R.). With a small fortune left over from his days in Pipeweed Country, and the vast wealth of his family to fall back on, Boldibad led a life of leisure. Around this time, he joined up with the infamous Eligible Bachelor Society (EBS) of Bywater, at his cousin Fredegar's urging. There, at one of the regular meetings, he encountered Red Took, once again. Red was also a member, and eventually took Fredegar's place as "Grand Poobah."

After the EBS finally dissolved, Berredan was rarely seen again by Thilo or Boldibad. The latter took the ideals to heart, though, and to this day, has never married. Boldibad began to travel around the Shire in search of old antiques, mathoms, and historical artifacts as a hobby, in the 1440s, S.R. He came to be known, in time, as a master dealer and collector of antiques. This mainly came from his background of reading books with his father.

In about 1446, Boldibad moved temporarily to Buckland, to the dismay of his more sensible family members, to investigate rumors of numerous buried artifacts from the "Wandering Days." During this time, he did more traveling and had more adventures than he ever thought possible. He led two trade expeditions to Bree in the late 1440s, S.R. On the first, he was robbed by a bandit Outsider. On the second, the hobbits were waylaid by a troll on their way to Bree. The wagon was destroyed, and they were stranded in Bree for over three months.

Before 1450 S.R., Boldibad returned to Bolger Smial, to the relief of his immediate family, and has decided to stick closer to home, and think about settling down.
