== Gundabad Quest TP ==

=== Premise ===

While the dwarves were in the Shaws licking their wounds from a not-so-long-ago defeat at the traitor Imladech's hands, an [http://elendor.closetgamers.com/site/logs.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&catid=9&sobi2Id=1721 old man] showed up at their supper fires and claimed the name of Gandalf, and friendship with Thorin! And not only that, he spoke of an ancient, proud relic of Durin that had come to light in Gundabad - and whispered rumors of a new leader arising among the goblins, and a threat rising in Mirkwood, that drew them away from their Northern Fastnesses - so that an assault on the Father's Birthplace might not be such a foolhardy task as in other years.

Cast into wild excitement and surmise, the dwarves began at once to plan and scheme and plot. Aid must be sought of cousins in Erebor, perhaps even elves in Imladris... What will happen next? It is anyone's guess - but Orcs of the North, Beware!

=== Progress ===

==== Winter 2010/11: ====
The Dwarves pass through Imladris, letting slip something of their plans despite some individuals' (Broddur and Oskar, cough) reluctance. When the group departs for the Misty Mountains, the twins Elladan and Elrohir and several rangers accompany them. The Elves and men prove their worth in the inevitable goblin skirmishes during the crossing, and in Mirkwood (where the Twins slay a [http://elendor.closetgamers.com/site/logs.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&catid=9&sobi2Id=1744 spider]).

After pausing in Esgaroth to restock their supplies, the party enters the halls of the King Under the Mountain. [http://elendor.closetgamers.com/site/logs.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&sobi2Id=1781 Dain is informed] of the endeavour, but refuses to give it his blessing and casts doubt on whether the old man of the Shaws was truly Gandalf. However, he does permit interested individuals to take part; foremost amongst these is the veteran warder Graim of Dhurenfal.

==== Spring 2011: ====

The party choose the road north of Mirkwood, through the Ered Mithrin. Deep in the mountains they are waylaid by Wargs and several valiant souls lay down their lives in the battle. Bolosi is gravely wounded, but healed by the hand of Elrohir.

Whilst licking their wounds, the Dwarves discover a [http://elendor.closetgamers.com/site/logs.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&sobi2Id=1782 hidden door] of Dwarf-make in a nearby valley. [http://elendor.closetgamers.com/site/logs.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&sobi2Id=1783 Subsequent investigation] reveals a network of partially collapsed Dwarven Halls - and the tell-tale sounds and stink of a [http://elendor.closetgamers.com/site/logs.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&sobi2Id=1785 troll] ... An encounter with said beast leads to the collapse of the roof, and the loss of Broddur.

The company continues on to Mount Gundabad itself, where cold and ice beset them. Their efforts to open a stone door of Dwarf-make prove fruitless, but a chance encounter with goblins leads to the discovery of a dark hole leading to a portcullis. On this the Dwarves [http://elendor.closetgamers.com/site/index.php?option=com_sobi2&sobi2Task=sobi2Details&sobi2Id=1791&catid=0&Itemid=63&Itemid=63 vent their frustrations] with little effect. However, a second attempt with [http://elendor.closetgamers.com/site/logs.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&sobi2Id=1796 a ram] is more fruitful and in the end the iron bursts asunder.

Once inside, the Dwarves and their allies push on into the tunnels, to encounter some [http://elendor.closetgamers.com/site/logs.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&sobi2Id=1798 haphazard resistance] stiffened up by the presence of a troll. This is apparently defeated by Elrohir, and the remaining orcs lose heart and flee. What now? Will our heroes find the hoped-for treasure?
