A farewell; to arms!

Y'know how the army's been heading out in trickles and spurts? Well, last night more than a few of us were hanging around the bridge to see most rest of them take off down south. What'll we do if someone comes from the west, that's what I'd like to know.

Anyway, one of the men rode up to us but he only struck up a conversation with Lady ISOBEL. One noble to another, right? Heard him call himself Lord ORMAR of Girion. Fancy! I couldn't really overhear everything they were saying, but it seemed to be about the latest Council meetings. Fine for them as are invited, I bet there's free food..

Wasn't much more said I don't think, then Lord Ormar rode off to join the rest of the cavalry before they left without him. Let's hope they succeed.

In a stew

The bulk of the Dale-lands army has reached the road past Finney - and there, it seems, it will stay, enduring the mud and rain that are the traveller's constant companion at this time of year. The young Girion commander ORMAR, whilst discussing strategy and organizing patrols, told his aide that 'We'll likely stay here all winter'. Whether it's true or simply a ruse to lull any spies in camp, who can say?

This Lord Ormar must be mighty worried about infiltrators; I heard tell he's even employed a food taster! Leastways, half the camp saw him wave away the bowl of stew the night cook had sent and offer it to that scruffy Warden girl - LOUSE, I've heard them call her - you know, the one whose accent's thicker than a pile of muck. Last I heard, she was giving the Girion her report - wonder if he was any the wiser after it?

Ale? Or real ale?

The troops near Finney seem to have settled down there. The winter isn't even there but I guess they should stay a bit back lest they provoke the easterlings. I heard them say we're here to clear out bandits on the roads and hunting spiders or a troll for the good of the kingdom but me and the boys are pretty sure we're waiting on spring or something to get back Buhr Marling.

Not that the commander says anything. ORMAR was seen reading letters from home - or maybe it was something else? I can't read so... - and having a drink with one of the soldiers, the Karath retainer WRAY. They were having ale that had been sent from the Lake-town to replace the last week's piss. It actually tastes like ale, too! Though you don't get much of it and everything's rationed, it's still damned decent of the boss to let us relax a little...

The greycloaks returned from wherever, too, along with that Mouse. Or Louse? Yes, LOUSE was reassured by the noble fancypants and Wray that the new ale is drinkable so she got herself a mug of it, too, then going about doing the usual and reporting to Ormar. Still not sure how he can understand any of what she's saying...

All in all, I think I prefer easterling army to a troll, anyway... Just sayin'.
