Ranich Details

History

For the last eighteen years, Fearachas has been rather well off. It's a quiet, peaceful holding that has seen little violence or turmoil in it's midst. Donnchad Ranich was Fian for nearly two decades and adopted a rather just and levelheaded leadership that many say was lenient, but the people of Fearachas have been mostly happy and living well enough for it.

Donnchad's History (tentative)

Fourteen years ago (3031), when Barseg was Ceann he did a favor for Donnchad. The two were friends in the past and Donnchad always thought well of Barseg. When Barseg put the call out to rally troops for his march on the Hawk, Donnchad asked that his people be exempt from the draft. It had been a poor harvest in the fall, and the winter was already going to be lean for the town on top of supplying Barseg with food for his army. Donnchad wanted all the men he could for the spring planting to get back on track and didn't want to risk any in a battle.

Barseg granted the exemption and they kept it quiet for a few weeks. Eventually word got out in Fearachas of what Donnchad did, but when the men protested their desire to go and fight, the Fian blatantly told them it was settled and no one would be granted lawful leave of Fearachas. Any that left anyway would lose all of their land, no exceptions. To curb the dissension, he picked a handful of the more hot-headed, battle-minded people to take food on to the fighting, but many people criticized Donnchad for the decision.

After a couple of years, most put it behind them and life went back to normal for the quiet farming community. Many in Caerdh County outside of Fearachas berate Donnchad as a coward, but his people always had food on the table and provided a sizable portion of the rest of the county with provisions during those hard winters as well.
