Elusul Isilrim (b. June 21, 3022), son of Arachas and Ithileth, is a Swan-Knight of Dol Amroth and former squire of Dauragor Bragollach.

Early life

Elusul was born to Arachas and Ithileth, distant cousins and scions of House Isilrim. Living among his relations in Calembel, young Elusul in his boyhood wandered the lands of his family's fief looking for adventure and dreaming of growing up to be a Swan-Knight in the service of the Prince of Dol Amroth.

Upon reaching an age where he could be properly educated, the boy was taught in the finer points of Sindarin and the Common Speech. As he grew older, Elusul enjoyed learning the lore of Gondor, especially her laws and traditions. Manifesting his family's love for justice, Elusul's parents thought him a fine fit to study further under the loremasters and possibly an eventual assignment as a member of the Prince's or the Steward's court, aiding in law-giving. But childhood dreams intervened as he instead asked for and obtained permission to seek entrance into the Order of the Swan.

Squired

Elusul went to Dol Amroth to see out the Prince in order to be admitted to the Order. However, he was instead intercepted by Dauragor, lord of the Bragollach. The old knight with his ever-present cane questioned the boy and then promptly admitted Elusul to the ranks of the White Squires with his own authority. Soon after his admission to the Order, Elusul became a member of an ill-fated expedition into southern waters. His ship was ambushed and sunk by Corsairs. Elusul was saved by his cousin Herudil Isilrim. Then in November and December of 3038, the White Squire took part in the siege of Cair Andros. In a skirmish with three trolls, he saved Herudil after the other squire had been knocked on the head by a rock. For his conduct, Elusul was promoted to Blue Squire on December 4th by Dauragor.

In the summer of 3039, Elusul followed his master and the other Swan-Knights to Minas Tirith. There he became acquainted with the people of the City of Gondor and some of their strange customs. One young woman named Celebren in the Academy showed the young man a tome on love poetry and then hurried off. Time passed and the Blue Squire continued his studies.

In the autumn, his master sent Elusul off on the quest of Teranor the lieutenant of the Silver Ship Company to recover Lady Siladril of House Nimothan, the sister of Rothgil. During the quest, Elusul saw much of death as he came upon poor farmers, women and children savaged by wild evil wolves. The young man was stricken by what he saw and his mood grew dark, a portend perhaps. In the end, the poor farmers were avenged and the Lady Siladril was recovered and returned to Minas Tirith.

Knighted

Elusul did not stay long in Minas Tirith after the quest to Anorien to save the Lady Siladril. A letter had been received by Lord Dauragor from a village elder whose lord was owed allegiance to Forlong of Lossarnach. According to the elder Ronelth, the old Lord Melumir Athanllach was ill and his steward Belegan was using the situation against the villagers of Athan Sirith. Dauragor dispatched Elusul to deliver letters to the Lord Melumir and to do what he could to see that the villagers received justice in the face of the steward's tyranny.

Seeing first hand upon his arrival the tyranny of the steward Belegan, Elusul met the Lord Melumir in his sick room and told of the deeds of the blackguard. Melumir roused himself and banished Belegan for his crimes and then asked that Elusul take messages to Dauragor.

Upon his return to the City of Gondor, Elusul reported to his master at the Bragollach house after a long ride. As dusk grew into night on the 21st day of January in the year 3040 of the Third Age, Dauragor told Elusul to kneel and swear the oath of a Swan-Knight. Since his knighting, Elusul has taken part in many actions at sea and lately in the crusade in the south marches against the Haradrim.
