Beornings -General

The people of the Beorning culture are composed of two groups: The Northmen living on the shores of the Anduin River and the Woodmen, former residents of Western Mirkwood. While brusque and often lacking in etiquette during formal events, the people are generally kind and courteous, so long as you can earn their trust. To those who anger them, however, the Beornings are an awesome and dangerous foe, and those who have had dealings with them know the folly of riling these people.

The people on the whole are somewhat xenophobic. They live in relative isolation, and the infrequency of friendly travellers and unfortunate frequency of dangers from Mirkwood to the East, and the Misty Mountains to the West has made them cautious and untrusting, and they tend to prefer a lack of visitors to an abundance of them. However, visitors are unavoidable based on their strategic location, both at the Ford of Carrock, one of the few crossing points over the Anduin River, and the High Pass, one of the few routes through the Misty Mountains. Both of those routes generate a lot of revenues for the Beornings in the form of tolls, and thus many of their cultural resources are geared towards training able-bodied warriors to traverse the Forest and the High Pass, leading travellers through and protecting caravans from the many dangers that lurk in the mountains. The tolls, however, are just a bonus, payment for one of their favorite activities: Killing goblins!
