The Dwarves are back in town - or at least some of them. I saw Master Lurdel taking a delivery for the Weapons Shoppe, and Brue was ordering in extra supplies - they don't half put it away, eh? Makes you marvel. Marvels of a different sort were on display at the little cart in the Market - mechanical toys of diverse nature and even a few minature musical instruments. Mistress Silke bought a tiny trumpet for her lad and the neighbours have been cursing her ever since! Anyway ... I saw ISOBEL Taurdain down there having a look; this old fellow (GLOIN) latched on at once and demonstrated one item: a trilling songbird that might almost have been magical, though Gloin insisted it was 'the science of smithcraft' that taught it to sing. But can you guess what he was asking for it? FOUR gold florins! My heart was in my mouth as I watched Lady Isobel reach for her purse ... but then she seemed to think better of it, made some excuse about coming back later. I hope she didn't - four gold florins for a trinket? Know what I'd say if my wife threw her money around like that!
