Desc:
This is a magnificent creature, regal yet wild, noble yet fierce, with a height nearing eleven feet and a wingspan of about thirty. Layers of dark brown plumage mixed with red cover his enormous body, giving off a fiery copper hue when stricken by sunlight. Deep eyes of piercing amber contain a calculating scrutiny and intelligence not possessed by lesser avians of the world.
A large hooked beak of gold protrudes from the raptor's feathered head, and two sturdy legs bear knife-sharp talons stained and scarred by usage -- a wordless warning to the thralls of Darkness.
History:
As with his brother, Faungrist, Fuinross was born far to the north of Middle-Earth, in the Ered Mithrin eyries during the younger years of the Third Age. For a time he remained under the wings of the elders, eagerly learning what he could of lore and the histories of the lands. But ever and anon his hunting would stray and venture farther abroad, and he spent less time near the mountains of his home. Curiosity however proved keener than the young Eagle's experience, and he suffered a grievous spear wound to one wing from a band of orcs above the foothills of the Misties. The winds of Manwe blow ever stronger in the high mountain air, and Fuinross was able to keep himself aloft long enough to reach the haven of Lorien to the south. There he was recovered, though the range of movement in that pinion was henceforth not as great as his other.
Follies are opportunities to learn from error, and he renewed training with increased determination. When he came of age, he became a knight and protector of the skies, as is the duty of his kin, the Great Eagles of the Lords of the West. The past injury did not quell his wanderings, and often Fuinross took to the heavens near the Golden Wood, and even the passes of the Hithaeglir, where he spied upon and harried the schemes of the orcs. He dwells now mostly in the Misties, serving as hunter and sentry.
