Gundabad Quest RP summaries(starting March 2011) The Quest of Gundabad: Final Part, Chapter 1TO: (Rhov-rp) BY: Bolosi (3/18/11) It was a red day, when the Dwarven war party traversed the cold, desolate path to the Mithrin Wastes. Mist rolled down from the mountains, curling and sweeping across the plains. The day was chilly, a tickle of frost upon the lifeless landscape. The allied dwarves, and the noble companions who walk this dark path with them, toiled on up the Northern road, expecting little excitement on a trail so barren. How very wrong they were. They came like devils from the fog; Wolves of the North, sleek and savage, the spilling of blood their only purpose. Death in their eyes, they ambushed the caravan- but the Khazad reacted quicker than expected, forming defensive lines around the wagons and staving them off with shield and iron fist. It was a bloody day, but not without its heroes. BOLOSI, the de facto leader of the militia, led the defensive effort around the wagons, whilst other dwarven warriors duelled valiantly with chieftains of the warg horde. FORMIN, master silversmith of the Lonely Mountain ( and a rather colourful character), faced a mighty wolf in single-handed combat; until, that is, ELROHIR, son of Elrond, came to his aid. With their combined might, the savage beast was quickly slain, but not before the silversmith suffered a formidable wound to the neck. GRAIM, a renowned warrior from Dain's Kingdom under the mountain, faced a smaller, yet deceivingly powerful foe. Although he battled with courage and fortitude, the battle turned against him, and he was struck back by a scything claw which disfigured his face. But chance intervened, before the killing blow could be struck; having pounced on the large Bolosi, the militia captain tossed an unfortunate wolven attacker several metres, directly for Graim's assailant. This drew the she-wolf's attention. Lashing back at the big dwarf, Bolosi was plucked from the defensive line and dragged out onto the open plain to be disembowelled. And that's when SEREGITHIL, an elven warrior of great prowess, dropped his bow and took to the field. Intercepting the she-wolf, they battled before the fallen captain, before the elf overcame and slew her. At a call from Formin, the dwarves surged forward and drove the wargs back, slaughtering the remainder of the pack. Truly, this was a day of ill doings. A bloody day, where neither side could claim a victory. What now? Where will the dwarves go from here? Can they truly continue, after so many have lost their lives?
The Quest of Gundabad: Part 2- " The Healing of the Wounded."TO: (Best-rp) BY: Bolosi - Tue Mar 22 13:08:19 2011 After the bloody conflict upon the plains, the Dwarven war party fled swiftly to the refuge of the mountains, delving into the safety of the tunnels and ravines. Grimly, the bruised caravan holed up in an underground passage whilst the healers went to work on those who were wounded, attempting to snatch them from the clutches of death...Or, if their injuries were too severe, help ease their passing. One of this unfortunate number was BOLOSI, son of Bolli. Having suffered several vicious wounds, a dastardly she-wolf dragging him many yards with her teeth buried in his leg, his situation looked grim at best. The Khazad healers, both those who passed from the West and those of Dain's kingdom, attempted to heal him to no avail. But it was the Peredhel ELROHIR who was to lend his skill to save the Khazad's life; using a herbal brew to aid him, the elven prince plucked a fang from an infected wound, and set about stabilising the fallen captain's condition. Throughout all of the proceedings, GRAIM was close at hand, aiding in the surgery. Alas, Bolosi's life was saved, and his heart beats on. But he was one of the lucky number; many more lie dead, ravaged by tooth and claw. Indeed, this has been a bitter bullet for the caravan to bite; buried in the mountain passes, what will they do now? Is going on truly wise, when only more blood shall spill? The Quest of Gundabad: Chapter 3- " A Prompt Respite".TO: (Best-rp) BY: Bolosi - Tue Mar 22 13:24:01 2011 For a while, the Dwarven party roamed the tunnels of the Mithrin, before happening across an obscure passage. Following it, they arrived at a hidden valley; a little place, sprinkled with a chilly air, it offered them a chance of further respite- a place to sit and gather their thoughts. BOLOSI sat against the lone tree which stood upon the frosty ground, still weak from his injuries. Accompanied by his constant companions, Folli and Horgor, he dwelt on his thoughts; dominating his mind was the vital decision which was to be made. What now? And thats when FORMIR approached. Carrying a truly gruesome wound to the neck, the barb-tongued silversmith displayed no less wit than he did before. He came carrying the very question which Bolosi had been striving to answer himself; and as it was asked, the captain of the militia knew that they had only one choice. "We go on" He said grimly, " But first, we must gather ourselves. Regroup. Let us explore this region for a while, and see what we can dig up." LUIN: Door in the MountainTO: (Best-rp) BY: Broddur - Mon Mar 28 04:25:55 2011 With the worst injured of the party still recovering from the warg attack, those better off began to explore the shadowed valleys of the Ered Mithrin. Thus it was that OSKAR, GRAIM and BRODDUR stumbled on a cunningly concealed iron door, skilfully wrought but blackened as though by flame. Much discussion ensued as to how one might open it, until at last Oskar set his hand to the lock only to have the door swing wide. Beyond it lay a vast rubble-littered cavern - broken and despoiled now, but even a blind bat could see it was Dwarf-work. The three intrepid explorers hurried to tell their comrades. Soon a larger expedition had been mounted, led by GRAIM and FORMIN and with the assistance (do Elves assist?) of the half-elf ELROHIR. At the tail of the group bearing brushwood for fires tagged the old miner BRODDUR with a rope. Within the outer Hall fires were kindled, so that all present could gaze on the cavern's ruined beauty. It was not long, however, before Elrohir had located a foul-smelling opening leading inward and downward, and he and several others set to exploring it. The crack led first to a dark, rodent-infested passage and then to a flight of stairs. Broddur was in the lead at this point when his torch guttered out and silence fell; the others hastened after to find themselves in a large cavern of sculpted and rune-carven pillars, half-buried in orcish refuse. Broddur himself was found lying unconscious at the stair-foot, victim to the foul air. Alas, refuse was not the only sign of occupation; soon the thumps and laughter of trolls was heard! With their companion unconscious, the group chose to bear Broddur back to the surface ... yet surely they will return. Formin was drawn by the runic histories set out upon the pillars - and what Dwarf could ever turn his back on a troll? What will greet our heroes on their next descent? Just how many Dwarves does it take to open a door? And what's to be done with that liability Broddur? Might his waning years be upon him? GUNDABAD trip: Troll on the loose!TO: (Best-rp) BY: Broddur - Mon Apr 04 18:27:08 2011 A party of Dwarves had returned to the ruined Dwarven Halls to examine further the remains of the many glories of the past. Yet even as they disturbed the dust with quill or hammer, another disturbed them. A severed stone head of a Dwarf-king of old tumbling into their midst presaged the arrival of a monstrous troll (played by LO), all the more chilling in that while one of the brute's legs was fleshy the other was dead stone. A skirmish ensued, in which the dogged miner BRODDUR held out under the beast's fury alongside an axe-wielding companion. The young draughter Thialfi eschewed quill and parchment for rope and cunning in a plan to lure the brute outside and open it up to attack. Alas, his ideals never came to fruition, for the troll's own clumsiness brought part of the ceiling crashing down, burying Broddur and his companion beneath it. Do Broddur and his friend Ulli still live? Should a rescue attempt be mounted? Or will a live and hungry troll 'rescue' them first? That, dear reader, is for you to decide ...
Gundabad Attacked!TO: (Best-rp) BY: Nob (Wed Apr 27) The dwarves and their cohorts have reached Mount Gundabad, after a long and weary journey. Alas, they reached the fabled mountain only to spend their days shivering in fields of ice and roaming the racked and barren land looking for a way inside. A great stone door clearly of dwarven make raised their hopes for a time, only to dash them, as it could not be opened. Neither password nor touch nor any other device the dwarves and elves together could think of had any effect. And so they were left still searching. Until one night, under a half-full moon, a small band of orc crept by secret ways out and attacked! Most were slain, but a few fled - and were followed until the black hole they slipped into was found. At last! The camp prepares to follow.
GUNDABAD: Battle down below!TO: (Best-rp) BY: Unnar (Mon May 16) With the portcullis destroyed, the Dwarves and their allies pushed on into the heart of Mount Gundabad. It was there, whilst examining a seemingly blocked tunnel leading away from the vast Gathering Hall, that they encountered their first true resistance. Orcish ambushers sent a pile of stone and rubble cascading toward the Dwarves and behind it the lumbering form of a troll (played by OLLIE) emerged. GRAIM, the veteran warrior-healer of the Dhurenfal, was swift to raise the rallying cry: "Sons of the mountains! Stand firm and break them!" And thus battle was joined ... Graim himself was beset by the mace-wielding forest dweller LOGOZ, whilst the young Firebeard UNNAR found himself occupying the troll. The eager CALENORC (played by Calenloth) beset BOLOSI and his companions until the press of battle whirled him away to face OSKAR's apprentices instead. These latter bested the orc in the end (those days of dodging Oskar's ladle have clearly paid off!), just in time to turn their attention to the fallen Graim, who had suffered badly at the hands of Logoz' mace. Whether he suffered more at the hands of his inept 'healers' is a moot question. It was now that the twin blades of ELLADAN and ELROHIR joined the fray. Elladan took on Logoz with great zeal, whilst Elrohir found himself in the position of troll-carver. Elrohir's dancing blade appeared to be doing little damage; but then his monstrous opponent simply keeled over, cause unknown. Perhaps the beast had suffered internal injury during an earlier fall. At this the orcs lost heart and those who survived, among them the wounded Logoz, fled into the tunnels like rats. The Dwarves have made secure the cavern, tended their injured and honoured their fallen. Now it only remains to explore the labyrinth in search for the long-hoped-for treasure. Will anything be found? One thing is clear: Dwarves and Elves cannot remain beneath the mountain for long. Aside from the danger of goblin hordes returning, there is Winter itself to contend with. |
