History

Born into the House of Narthanaer, Ivorin (Crystal Crowned) - so called by her father because her birth was heralded by a crown of crystalline ice - is the youngest of her parents' three children. Her father Thoronast is one of the Hirnethron and her mother Lotheryn spent her younger years as a Thandis to the Imladhrim before she turned her attention to the Smith craft.

Both of her elder sisters followed in their father's footsteps and it was almost expected that Ivorin would do the same. She was always very eager to learn, and did so fairly quickly, even by Elven standards. At the age of fifty, she was given her first horse. He was a slate grey stallion from a swift line raised by a friend of her father's. She called him Amlugol and for the duration of his life, the two were nearly inseperable. She began to ride further and stay gone longer. She spent time with the Rochdur and the Thrandir, she watched the Rochon train, and when she approached her mother with the desire to learn skills in combat, Lotheryn gave her daughter her second name. She called her Hathlandineth, because she knew in her heart of hearts that her daughter would become truly a bride of the blade.

It took some time for Thoronast to accept this, because he feared for his youngest child. Above all things, however, he desired her happiness, and so he gave his blessing. When Ivorin finished her training and joined the ranks of the Rochon, he gifted her with hours spent learning where to find herbs useful for the wounds and ills of battle and how to prepare and use them. Her mother's gift came in two parts; the first being a silver circlet set with a deep blue gem - a reminder of her kinship to her mother's cousin Elwing and to all of her House - and the second, a blade, light enough to wield one-handed and long enough to be used from the back of a horse. Set into the sides of the blade were inscriptions in old Quenya for the blessings of the Valar. It was called Arlaer and it has served her well ever since.

Many years have passed since the receiving of those gifts. Amlugol perished long ago, his body buried in the hills where he and Ivorin first roamed. His line lives on, however, his best traits preserved and refined over thirteen-hundred years by his mistress' guidance. Now, still serving in the Rochon, Ivorin is training a new mount, since Orthadinu was injured in battle. Many good foals will come from the Rising Star, but she will never again see battle.
