Truly, the work of this profession has to a large extent created the reputation the Dwarves hold to this present day. Humans and Elves regard the race of the Khazad as skilled with all manner of metals, and it is indeed true that the smiths of the dwarves are unsurpassed in the craft of forging and crafting metals, whether it be elaborate carved doors (some even able to lock magically!) or simple, serviceable weapons that have made their own reputation in the hands of Dwarven warriors. Dwarven Master Smiths are widely sought after by Khazad and outsiders alike, and no being still living upon this Earth can match their skill. With patience and tons of quality RP, new players can someday hope to find themselves at this level.

There are many branches of the Smithing trade, the lowliest being the simple blacksmith, who works making horseshoes, drawing knives and the like. All new players start out on this level. However, when they reach Journeyman status, they may specialize in their trade. Some of the specialized smithing professions are Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, Goldsmith, Gemsmith, Silversmith, and Locksmith. To advance in rank a new player can apprentice himself to a Master of their profession and wait for his approval, or show their merit to either the Thane himself or one of the clan elders, one of whom usually is the head of the clan's smithing affairs.

The ranks of the Smith run as follows:

  1. Apprentice Blacksmith
  2. Journeyman <Specialty>
  3. Senior <Specialty>
  4. Master Smith

More information about smithcraft can be found in the tome entitled 'On Smithing'.
